Team Slovakia WSDC

Next on the naughty list is Mário V., resident virtue signaller and our first speaker (reader). Expertly hiding his personality under layers and layers and layers of tattoos, his latest one sports the Iron Lady and the neoliberal icon himself (swipe right for Exhibit A). As an average Orava Christian and disappointment to his parents, he seeks refuge in the dark and damp world of commie-block dormitories. Golf dad in the streets, Tesco employee in the sheets, he spends his days sticking woke stuff on his iPad and tearing down government billboards. Mário is also our most graphic member, with a portfolio composed chiefly of CBD bottles and s*x ed infographics. Likes and dislikes? He particularly enjoys Ci******es After S*x and nothing else. His one weakness? Anfisa telling him to shut up. And that about does it for Mário.

The first member we'll introduce is a Anfisa K. As our most valued token Ukranian and proud recipient of the V. Yanukovych Family Scholarship, she more than pulls her weight in the team. Young but experienced, she rarely speaks outside of debate. Instead, she mumbles incoherently into her recording device after dark and regularly calls with someone named Moss Sad. We have been unable to confirm who Moss Sad is, but we hope she is not caught up in some romance scam or something. Her hometown is a self-proclaimed iron pearl of the nation and is somehow located even more to the East than Jasmina's. An accomplished student, WSDC regular, prospective EU citizen, and IPPF world champion, her motto is girlboss, gaslight, gasprom. If trapped on a desert island, she would make sure to bring the complete works of F. M. Dostoyevsky and a Princeton Review SAT Math Workbook. Hopefully, she'll succeed in more than just debate, graduating valedictorian without dropping out like that one time in 8th grade.

The first on the line is our third speaker, Jasmína P. Hailing from the East, acclimating to the big city (Bratislava) has been a learning curve. She has gone from a music conservatory (don't worry, she's actually quite open-minded) to a sect and later onto the greatest university this side of the Vltava.
A self-proclaimed lover of US bis*xuals, she spends her time playing at oligarchs' birthday parties and reading Victor Hugo completely voluntarily. Outside debate, she often volunteers to indoctrinate the next generation with her so-called critical thinking seminar. Fun fact, her hometown boasts the smelliest tax office in all of Slovakia, yet she still loves it dearly for some reason.

After day 1 we emerged victorious!

The first debate was a prepared motion about commercialisation of space against Team Ghana. A very lovely debate and we thank our opponents for it.
We won 3:0 and moved on to the next round highly motivated.

The second debate was an impromptu motion about banning meat consumption and production against Team Wales. Very entertaining debate with many obscure examples, but also challenging. We again thank the opponents. We won again 2:1 and can live to debate another day after amazing feedback by Matt Song.

On day 2 we will have a prepared geopolitical motion and another impromptu.

After a close Partial Double Octofinals debate against Team Pakistan which resulted in a 1:2 split decision, our WSDC 2019 journey concludes. Congratulations to Pakistan and good luck to all teams in the following rounds. Most importantly, a giant thank you goes to everyone who has supported us throughout this year of preparation, during ups and downs, practice sessions, spar debates, tournaments, and in our journey to WSDC. We would not have been able to get this far without you. ❤️

The Partial Double Octofinals are starting at 10:30! We're proposing the motion "This House supports the right of indigenous peoples to have publicly funded schools with autonomy over curriculum, operations, and educational philosophy" against Team Pakistan. Wish us luck! ❤️ We might be able to live stream the debate, so check our page for updates.

Just like last year, we squeezed in through the closing door. After three consecutive losses, we managed to win three debates in a row and we broke!

The first day of WSDC concludes; with the first three rounds out of eight having taken place.

Team Slovakia won the first round on the gentrification motion in a 2:1 split against the Thai swing team. We also won the second debate about zero-day vulnerabilities in a 2:1 split against Team New Zealand. In the final debate of the day (and the first power-paired one), we faced Team China and lost. Congratulations! And thanks to all the teams who we debated today.

Now a rest day awaits us - we'll recharge and do some work on the last prepared cases - Amazon and payday loans.

The Opening Ceremony of WSDC 2019 took place tonight at Assumption University of Thailand. Slovakia is represented by a national team consisting of 5 debaters, a coach, two judges who are part of the delegation, and two Independent Adjudicators.

We're looking forward to a wonderful tournament full of engaging debates and new friendships!

We have landed in Bangkok! 🇹🇭 Our two flights were tiring, full of movies and trivia games. We're signing off now to finish our preparations and enjoy some spar debates, you'll hear from us on Thursday after the Opening Ceremony. Bratislava Schools Debating Competition 2019 is over! We lost the final debate to Team Romania for WSDC in a 3:2 split decision. Congratulations to our friends from Team Romania for a great debate and their exceptional performance at the tournament!
