Each year, CUHK Science brings together reputable employers and our outstanding young science talents through our flagship career development event: Science Career Fair.

From March to April 2026, we proudly presented a series of engaging activities as part of the latest Fair, including company exhibitions, recruitment talks, alumni career-sharing sessions, company visits, and a soft skills workshop. We are delighted to share wonderful news from Hong Kong’s Research Grants Council (RGC)! Professor ZOU Jun, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Mathematics and Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), has been selected as one of the RGC Senior Research Fellows for 2026/27.

Each year, the RGC recognises outstanding senior researchers through the Senior Research Fellow Scheme, providing sustained support for their research as well as relief from teaching and administrative duties. Awardees are conferred the title of “RGC Senior Research Fellow” and their affiliated universities receive a fellowship grant of approximately HK$8.5 million over a period of 60 months in support of their research.

This prestigious honour will support Professor Zou’s project entitled “𝐀 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐖𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬.” The project aims to develop advanced mathematical theories and computational methodologies to address challenging inverse problems, with wide-ranging applications in sonar, radar, medical imaging, and seismic exploration.

香港研究資助局（研資局）傳來喜訊！香港中文大學卓敏數學教授兼數學系系主任鄒軍教授，獲選為2026/27年度「研資局高級研究學者」。

研資局每年透過「高級研究學者計劃」表揚表現卓越的資深學者，為其提供持續的研究支援，並減免部分教學及行政職務。獲選學者將獲頒「研資局高級研究學者」榮銜，其所屬大學亦將獲約港幣850萬元的研究經費資助，為期60個月，以支持相關研究工作。

是次殊榮將支持鄒教授題為「建立迭代抽樣類方法的一般理論框架及其在重構聲波散射中移動非均勻介質問題的數學論證」的研究項目。該項目旨在發展先進的數學理論與計算方法，以解決複雜的反問題，並廣泛應用於聲納、雷達、醫學成像及地震勘探等領域。

CUHK Science proudly celebrates the 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐝𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬, rising above more than 11,600 competing teams. The project is led by Dr. YE Pengxian (25/GS/PhD in Chemistry), Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty, with co-founders Dr. MIAO Guang and Dr. YANG Cuiting, both from the CUHK–GBU Joint Institute of Advanced Materials and Green Energy Research (JIAMGER). Under the supervision of Professor Song Chunshan, the team developed an innovative technology that converts biogas from food waste into green methanol at ambient temperature and pressure through a self-developed integrated purification–conversion system. This breakthrough transforms waste into valuable clean energy and advances carbon neutrality goals.

Spanning two months and three rounds across Guangzhou and Zhaoqing, the competition demanded rigorous preparation and continuous refinement. Competing alongside projects in AI, robotics, and advanced batteries, the team strategically structured its presentation to engage both technical experts and non-specialist judges. By prioritising clarity before technical depth and rehearsing extensively, the team delivered a confident and compelling final pitch to secure the Gold Award.

中大理學院衷心祝賀一個由本院校友兼博士後研究員帶領的團隊於廣東省「眾創盃」創業大賽中勇奪金獎，從逾11,600支參賽隊伍中脫穎而出，成績斐然。項目由叶芃顯博士（25研究院化學哲學博士）領銜，聯合創始人為來自香港中文大學—大灣區大學先進材料與綠色能源研究院的苗廣博士及楊翠婷博士，並由宋春山教授指導。團隊研發出一體化净化與轉化系統，於常溫常壓下將餐厨垃圾等有機廢棄物產生的沼氣高效轉化為綠色甲醇等燃料，轉廢為能，為推動碳中和目標提供創新解決方案。

賽事歷時兩個多月，橫跨廣州與肇慶三輪選拔。面對人工智能、機器人及新型電池等多元項目同場競逐，團隊精心設計路演結構，兼顧不同專業背景的評審需要，以清晰為先、深度為後。經反覆推敲與演練，最終以自信而具說服力的表現完成精彩陳述，載譽而歸。

CUHK Science is thrilled that Prof. NGAI To from CUHK Chemistry has been awarded over HK$4.2 million from the Green Tech Fund (GTF) for a two-year project, also making him the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭-𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐔𝐇𝐊 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭.

Established in 2020 and administered by the HKSAR Environment and Ecology Bureau, GTF provides funding support for research and development projects that help Hong Kong decarbonise and enhance environmental protection.

This grant will support Professor Ngai’s project, entitled “A Next Generation of Eco-Friendly Barrier: Compostable and Recyclable Waterborne Coating for Non-Plastic Tableware”, for developing an innovative polysaccharide-based waterborne coating system for plant-fibre tableware. This breakthrough offers superior resistance to heat, water, and oil whilst remaining cost-effective, compostable, and fully repulpable.

中大化學系魏濤教授最近榮獲「低碳綠色科研基金」（GTF）資助逾420萬港元，開展為期兩年的研究項目。

「低碳綠色科研基金」於2020年成立，並由香港特區政府環境及生態局管理，旨在資助促進本港減碳和保護環境的科研項目，魏教授同時是中大首位獲得此項政府基金資助的學者。

研究項目名為「用於非塑膠餐具的防水抗油抗熱、可堆填及回收的新型水性環保塗料」，以研發一種創新的多醣基水性塗料，為紙餐具提供卓越的耐熱、防水及抗油性能，同時確保重漿性、回收性與成本塗層效益。

𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝, 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠. CUHK Science is excited to offer a free workshop on science art, led by Dr. Natalia JAGIELSKA, postdoctoral fellow at Prof. Michael PITTMAN’s laboratory at the School of Life Sciences.

This workshop is free-of-charge for all staff and students, but seats are limited, and will be available on first-come, first-served basis.

CUHK Science proudly hosted its annual 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 on 28 April 2026, bringing together 24 students from seven graduate divisions to share their research and ideas. From oral presentations to poster pitches, participants demonstrated their strive for research excellence and passion for scientific discovery. The event also sparked inspiring conversations and knowledge exchange among students and Faculty members.

This year, we were pleased to continue the Outstanding Pitch Award, which recognises exceptional performance in the poster pitching session. The awardee was selected through votes cast by fellow participants and attendees, making it a truly peer-evaluated recognition of excellence in research communication.
