Queensbury is a large village mid-way between Bradford and Halifax that enjoys a unique situation. At 1,050 feet above sea level, we believe we are the ‘top secondary school in the country’. About half of the school population comes from this distinct community with its mixed semi-urban and rural feel; the remainder of our students travel some distance as a result of parental preference. The moors
and dales are easily accessible whilst Bradford, Leeds, Halifax and Huddersfield provide good music, theatre and sport. Queensbury School became an 11-19 comprehensive school in September 2000, following the reorganisation of education in Bradford. Previously it was a 13-18 upper school. It has been a popular choice with parents for many years and there are currently about 1150 students on roll. The school is currently eight form entry. Following a very successful Ofsted inspection in September 2010 we were seen as a satisfactory and improving school. As one Year 10 student crisply summed the momentum ‘this school is on the move’ (Ofsted 2010). Specialist schools status for mathematics and computing was awarded in 2004 and both the Mathematics and ICT departments are strengths of the school in terms of teaching and learning. The schools specialism has also meant enhanced ICT facilities and resources across the school. Queensbury School is a friendly, thriving and stimulating place to work and study and all staff inspires, has high expectations and raise the aspirations of every student within an increasingly personalised curriculum.Teachers who are energetic and want to develop outstanding practice, join Queensbury School. A growing feature of the school is its curriculum development and the school will move to a 5 period day and two week timetable in September 2011. We are part of a confederation and as such this enables us to offer greater educational and vocational opportunities to our students across KS4 and 5. The school was one of the first in the country to offer vocational courses and we are committed to remaining a comprehensive school at Sixth Form level. We put student leadership at the heart of our plans and policies and its award of Investor in Pupils and Healthy Schools status are examples of this continued commitment and at the centre is a thriving Student Council that are increasingly informed and involved in decisions about their school. Across all Key Stages standards are rising year on year and we are proud of this achievement and determined to build on this success and increasing numbers in post 16 are a testament to the rising standards
