Certificate in Music (Level 4)

The aim of this programme is to enable students to learn a full range of specialisations incorporated in music to prepare career-ready musicians for the growing music industry. The Certificate IV in Music also fulfills the requirements to enter the Diploma of Music. The training is provided through classroom instruction, workshops, practical assignments, projects, presentations, and industry experience. An emphasis on leadership, collaboration, and reliability underlies the Cert. IV in Music to develop creative, competent, and ethical musicians of a high standard that can confidently enter the music industry and generate their own professional pathway.

The minimum entry requirement for fresh school leavers to Certificate IV is successful completion of studies up to Fiji’s Sixth Form (12 years of continuous progression), with 50% in English or equivalent.

Applicants may also be admitted to Certificate IV in programs who may not meet the 12 years of continuous progression requirement but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in programs at these levels on the basis of maturity, work experience, or prior learning. The Dean may require such an applicant to sit for any specific or general examination as a prerequisite for any such enrolment, or may restrict enrolment only to certain prescribed courses, which must be passed to progress further.

Certificate in Film and Television (Level 4)

The progressive nature of the Film and Television program (FTV) requires students to follow a stair-casing program from Basics of FTV to Secondary FTV through to a Final Project phase. The aim of this progression is to enable students to learn the full range of specialisations incorporated in film and TV production so as to enable career-ready technicians as they enter into film and TV careers. The learning is provided through classroom instruction, hands-on workshops, practical , projects and in the process, the students acquire a thorough production experience in their specialisation.

Certificate in Graphic Design (Level 4)

The Certificate IV in Graphic Design aims to provide students and learners with knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the real business world and as entrepreneurial individuals. The training is provided through classroom theory and instructions, practical in the computer labs, projects, and assignment presentations to develop both a manual and digital graphic design portfolio. An emphasis on creativity, productivity, training, and developing students to fit into the workforce.

Minimum Requirement
a) Completion of studies up to Fiji’s Sixth Form or Fiji Year 12 Annual Exam/Assessment with 50% in English or equivalent.

b) Applicant may also be admitted to the Programme who may not meet the requirement on the years of continuous education progression, but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in programmes at these levels on the basis of their maturity, work experience or prior learning and minimum 17 years of age. (Minors fill and sign “Child Protection Policy” by parent.)

Certificate in Hair Dressing (Level 3)

The Certificate III Hairdressing program develops the knowledge and skills of students in basic hair cutting, managing a salon, understanding hair products, colour design, permanent waving and relaxing, hairdressing, and most of all, to meet the needs of the customers. As per the demands of the industry, the program also emphasises quality control concepts both in theory and via practical methods. The program will prepare students for employment in hair salons, hotels , resorts, and also as entrepreneurs.

Minimum Entry Requirement
Certificate II in Hairdressing with 2-3 years of industry experience or 50% pass in English (Year 11)

Certificate in Graphic Arts (Level 4)

The Certificate IV in Graphic Arts program aims to impart relevant, undated skill sets that's significant and in line with the moving trends of the commercial art industry. Additionally, this program prepares learners above the primary standards of modern graphic arts competencies by also providing the obligatory confidence and training that enables participants the cull to establish entrepreneurial commercial ventures in their ingenious field of choice.

Minimum Requirement
1.A pass in Year 12 FSLC external examination with a compulsory pass in English.

2.Mature age with 1yr of industrial experience in a Graphic Art and Design enterprise with validated proof of employment or an entrepreneur showcasing a portfolio that depicts evidence of competency in Graphic Art and design skills.

3.Mature age with technical skills and proof of a minimum of 3yrs of professional work experience with validated proof of employment.

Urgent Message for all Fiji National University Staff and Students

Fiji National University closure of Campuses

Suva, Fiji Islands. The Chair of FNU Council Mr Ikbal Jannif met with the Senior Management Group (SMG) this morning to assess the situation at the various Campuses of the Fiji National University. The meeting received reports from the University’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) which had been activated last week on Thursday afternoon.

Due to the extensive infrastructure damage suffered at Campuses in Ba and Raiwai and lack of clean drinking water and electricity, it has been decided that FNU will remain closed for the rest of this week.

Another meeting is scheduled for Friday 26/02/2016 following which a further announcement will be made regarding the University’s operations.

In the meantime a team will leave Suva to visit the Western campuses and will prepare an update for the Friday meeting.

All staff of the Properties and Facilities Division are required to report to work from tomorrow, Wednesday 24/02/2016. Staff can contact Director Properties and Facilities Mr Krishna Swamy on 9927048.

All other support section staff are requested to contact their immediate supervisors for further instructions.

All students who are studying in the Trimester mode are hereby advised that this week should be taken as your mid-trimester break.

All Academic staff are requested to contact their respective Deans or immediate supervisors (Head of Schools/Departments) as soon as possible for further instructions.

Students seeking an update relating to study programmes are requested to contact their respective lecturers.
