Self-compassion. It’s important for us to let ourselves off the hooks and traps we’ve set. As you say these statements to yourself, where do you notice your body relax? What thoughts cross your mind? It may seem trite and at the same time a little too much, but this is how we become kind to ourselves and reap a cascade of physical and mental benefits.

Several years ago, when I was going through a particularly difficult time, I discovered that trimming bushes in our yard is a great stress reliever. What’s not to love about using a power tool to cut something?
Today, I spontaneously took a mid-day break and trimmed some bushes because I realized that I’ve been feeling stressed, and I wanted to do this one chore, not because I had to do it today, but because it helped me to feel in control of one small area of life, because I knew how to do it, and because I could see it to completion, unlike so many other things right now.
My point? When we’re learning something new, feeling stressed, or not in control, sometimes it helps to stop and do something that we know how to do almost from muscle memory. The satisfaction comes from competency and completion. Often, after we do this, we can then figure out some steps in the areas that we are feeling stressed about, or sometimes, we just enjoy the feeling of accomplishment, and this is enough.
Feeling stressed or not in control? What is something you can do that makes you feel accomplished and in control? Might I suggest trimming bushes?

Almost every day, my lunch is leftovers from dinner the night before.
This is one of my biggest ways to help me eat healthy, get a balanced meal in the middle of the day, and still have time for all the things.
It’s not always exciting, and quite frankly, I don’t always feel like eating it, but it takes the guesswork out of what to eat and keeps me from making choices that might not serve me as well.
Today’s lunch? Leftover grilled chicken with homemade coleslaw.

It’s going to be hot this weekend!
Hydrate well with water.
The recommended amount is at least half your body weight in ounces.

Today is my kids’ last day of school for the year and my schedule will need to be a bit more flexible for the next few months.
I’m going to need to adjust rhythms and routines.
One thing I’m committed to is my self-care which, for me, includes a variety of things, but one is walking our family dog.
Seasons of life require us to be flexible, but we can also remain committed to caring for ourselves.
What do you need to do to adjust your routine but still care for yourself? What one step can you take toward that today?

Although eczema presents on the skin, the underlying cause is often gut related. Eating processed food and sugar can inflame our guts, and for some, may increase the likelihood of skin rashes, like eczema. Cutting back on these types of food and eating healthier, whole foods like fruits and vegetables can nourish the gut, reduce inflammation, and provide a way to heal.
Eczema is a tricky disease and does not usually have a one-size-fits-all solution. Different things work for different people. I will continue to offer suggestions and resources that can be helpful.
