10th Dan wasn’t given to Oyama — it was earned through pain.

Masutatsu Oyama (1923–1994) was not just a karate master — he was a living test of human limits. Holding the rank of 10th Dan, Oyama founded Kyokushin Karate, one of the hardest and most realistic styles ever created.
In a time when karate was becoming softer and more ceremonial, Oyama believed true karate must be tested through full-contact combat. His training was brutal: breaking stones, fighting multiple opponents, and enduring isolation in the mountains to forge mind and body into one.
Oyama became world-famous for his legendary 100-man kumite, fighting 100 opponents consecutively without stopping — a feat few have ever completed. His philosophy was simple but ruthless:
“One becomes strong through pain, discipline, and truth.”
For Oyama, a black belt did not symbolize mastery — it symbolized the beginning of endless struggle. His 10th Dan was not awarded by politics, but by a lifetime of proof.
Kyokushin means “The Ultimate Truth.”
Oyama lived it — and demanded it from his students.
