I hope my journey through Peru as an international volunteer inspires you to pursue your dreams and explore the world abroad. Cheers. Welcome. Have an adventure.
I hope you find this page and accompanying blog insightful as you pursue your ambitions and live your dream. In 2013, I volunteered with a wonderful organization called Cross Cultural Solutions and chose Peru as my destination for 30 days abroad. The Cross Cultural Solutions (CCS) home base is located in San Borja, Peru a district of Lima. During my experience in Peru I volunteered at the Anjo Gab
riel School of Special Education in San Juan de Miraflores and Los Martincito’s Senior Center in Villa el Salvador. This international volunteer experience has had a profound impact on my personal and global perceptions of the world around me and my place within it. If you have considered traveling abroad to volunteer I strongly encourage you to live your dream and start a new journey around the world. Finally, I want to thank everyone who supported my dream of becoming an international volunteer. Your generosity and support helped make this dream a reality.
“I beg young people to travel. If you don’t have a passport, get one. Take a summer, get a backpack and go to Delhi, go to Saigon, go to Bangkok, go to Kenya. Have your mind blown. Eat interesting food. Dig some interesting people. Be careful. Come back and you’re going to see your country differently, you’re going to see your president differently, no matter who it is. Music, culture, food, water. Your showers will become shorter. You’re going to get a sense of what globalization looks like. It’s not what Tom Friedman writes about; I’m sorry. You’re going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people, their day consists of walking 12 miles for four buckets of water. And so there are lessons that you can’t get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight. A lot of people—Americans and Europeans—come back and go, ohhhhh. And the light bulb goes on.”
