Today we conquered the mountain!
Yesterday, after being denied access to what I worked for, my brain still wanted to conquer this mountain. So I decided to go through the back door of the mountain.
Plan B!
Barr Trail!
There’s an expert-rated mountain bike and hiking trail that goes up the front of the mountain. 11.5 miles with a max grade of 46%. Gaining just over 7,000 feet in elevation along the way. Reading through the reviews, most mountain bikers said it was impossible to completely climb and you need to hike most of it. That it’s better to get a ride to the top of the mountain and then ride the trail down the mountain. But this was my only option. So with approval from my awesome family to help me, I decided to hike/ride up this trail and then back down as my alternative route.
Starting at 7 am, I began the climb up the trail. I had no supply support from my family for the entire climb. A 15 lb pack, plus my 15 lb unicycle. Also very little training offroad on my unicycle, because this summer I’ve been focusing on pavement riding. Odds were not in my favor.
The hike was awesome. But brutally hard. Sometimes scaling 4 ft tall boulders. I quickly realized that this was going to mostly be a hike. Also there was a hiking event up Pikes Peak on that trail. So I enjoyed encouraging people and talking with people. Telling how much further we need to go. Saying they could make it. But most excitedly, I found another Mountain Unicyclist. She showed me how to find a group that frequently climbs the same climb I was on and then rides back down. She gave me some tips about the climb. And some heads up on what to expect on the way down. I greatly appreciated the info she gave. Hopefully next year I will be able to join the group on a ride. As I got closer and closer to the top, it became abundantly clear I shouldn’t ride back down this trail today. There were too many hikers on the trail. And I couldn’t safely descend with all of them up there. Very tight quarters and lots of boulders to jump over. Also I had very little training for this climb and descent. I decided to just make it to the top. After 6 hours and 30 minutes. I made the 11.68 mile climb. Finally conquering Pikes Peak the only way I can for now

Huge thank you to Maggy Wolanske with Denver 7. For taking the time to cover my story. I appreciate the time and effort. And I will conquer this Mountain. Enjoy The Ride!
Colorado man plans to ascend, descend Pikes Peak on his unicycle named Harmony Dustin King has his eyes on Pikes Peak, but he knew conquering America's Mountain meant putting in the training and time to successfully make the 38 mile round trip.
Good morning!
Today was the Day!
I started at 7:30 and got up to the toll both. Only to be denied access!
I was told I wasn’t allowed to ride my “toy” up the Mountain!
I had previously just talked with the rangers back in July and they had no issues with it. So today after jumping through some hoops, I talked with the management team about it. Apparently I’ll need to rent the entire highway for a private event to be able to unicycle up it. The rangers concluded that the previous two people who had climbed up the highway must have done it illegally. Very disappointed, and I’m sorry I let you guys down. I greatly appreciate all the support. And hopefully in the future I’ll accomplish this goal. Not sure what to do right now. But if I hear of any changes or ways to achieve this goal, I’ll post it here. Thank you.

Training is Complete!
For the month of August I had 142 miles and 21 hours of ride time. It’s was a good month of pacing myself! That brings my overall training to 541 miles and 68.5 hours of riding over 38 rides.
Thank you for all the encouragement!
My next ride will be Pikes Peak!
Enjoy the ride!

Trail Ridge Road!
Today, with the help of my family, I completed the highest paved continuous road in the United States! My awesome family provided me food and drinks to fuel me when I went up and back down the other side. Couldn’t have done it without their support. 42 miles from the Fall River Visiting Center to the Kawuneeche Visiting Center! 19.5 mile HC climb up! Also huge thank you to the very kind people cheering me on along the way. I always enjoy seeing your smiles as I go by. More pictures to come. Remember to Enjoy The Ride.

Easy ride in Estes Park. Crashed the hardest I ever have on a unicycle. I was doing a mountain bike skill course. It’s was so much fun. Hope you’re having an awesome weekend. Enjoy your ride.

Did an easy 20 miles this morning. Just a catagory 2 climb on gravel. After I got home I did another 1.5 miles around my neighborhood. Absolutely gorgeous. Little Bear Road out of Idaho Springs. Get out and pursue your goals/dreams. And enjoy the ride!
