The Curtain Is Rising...

Once Upon a Time, Inc was incorporated in 1980, and has faithfully served children through the arts in our historical landmark building in Richmond Hill area of Queens, NY and brought joy, wonder, and lifelong lessons through dance and performing arts throughout New York City.

Last year during an outdoor kid’s sing-a-long production, Kevon Brown (a dad of two toddlers and a son of farmers back in his country of origin) looked at our overgrown outdoor space and said, “I wouldn’t be doing YOU a favor… rather, you’d be doing ME a favor if you let me transform this.” And just like that, a patch of neglected yard space became a shared dream.

With love from volunteers (& a generous dance mom), we mulched and made magic. After a cold winter, a rainy spring, and a fiery start to summer, the garden is blooming again… & this time with even more support 🌱

We’re honored to be recipients of a 2025 Community Leader Grant from Citizens Committee for New York City and a community garden grant from The City Gardens Club of New York City! With their financial support, Kevon’s vision, Tokke Trucking Company ‘s TLC, our humble lawn is becoming a space for learning, rest, and connection.

This past Sunday, grandparents, parents, kiddos, and neighbors got their hands dirty in the most beautiful way. And soon, 8 Summer Youth Employment teens, and a handful of elementary-aged Summer Camp participants will learn and tend… culminating in a garden-to-table meal at summer’s end.

The garden grows, and so do we. Deep thanks to our funders and volunteers for helping OUAT sprout. Because here, we eat what we sow 🌶️✨

Hello, friends! 🌟

It’s been a year since our last post, but rest assured, behind the scenes, we’ve been busy bees! 🐝

✨ **Once Upon a Time...** Terry and Mark Aubel answered the call to create and inspire. Did they ever imagine the incredible impact they’d have? Their journey was one of tenacity and audacity. Although we deeply feel their absence, their legacy lives on through the stories we tell. Today, we want to celebrate them by inviting you to share your experiences. Whether you were a student, a parent, joined us on stage, or sat in the audience, your story is a vital part of the OUAT magic. Please take a moment to click on our survey link (🔗 https://forms.gle/44eDMdPYm6TLKEDm9) to share your tales to help us keep the spirit of OUAT alive and thriving.

✨ **Once Upon a Time** is also the start of a new story. The show must go on… and with your support, we will make it happen! Thank you for being a part of the journey.

Hello friends!
We just wanted to send you all love and good blessings as the Holiday Season rapidly comes upon us.

Today is Terry's birthday, and in honor of her (and Mark), we wanted to say thank you for all of you who have come through those big red doors throughout the years, and have been a part of the Once Upon A Time family.

COVID, unfortunately, led to the end of an era of dance and the arts in Richmond Hill, Queens, as well as the passing of two people who gave all they had to bringing their mission of dance and theater for all. They will be missed terribly, but their mission will live on.

As of October, myself as well as former students, Yasmine, Keith, and Dolores have been "called" by Terry once more and have reformed the board to continue Once Upon a Time and continue to carry out their mission.

This will take time and a lot of hard work, but we believe that the community and the future of the arts in South Queens will benefit from its existence.

We thank you for reading and we hope that you will follow us on our journey of reopening Once Upon a Time and keeping up with that idea…

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

With Love,
Jennifer Kronenberg Guerra
