Teach For America - Twin Cities

Teach For America - Twin Cities Committed to the pursuit of education excellence and opportunity for all children in Minnesota.

Since our first cohort of 40 teachers in 2009, Teach for America Twin Cities has worked to transform the educational landscape of the Twin Cities. As of fall 2020, we have trained over 300 teachers serving over 32,000 students. Today we are a network of over 850 corps members and alumni, and countless partners and supporters. So often, education in Minnesota can feel like a tale of two states. Whi

le we tout our education system and quality of life as excellent, we face the largest gap in achievement between white students and students of color of any state in America. We at Teach For America Twin Cities know that educational equity will not be achieved in Minnesota without a cross-sector movement of educators, families, leaders, schools, and community partners. We are working towards an ambitious goal - by 2030, twice as many children in communities where we work in Minnesota will reach key educational milestones indicating they are on a path to economic mobility and a future filled with possibility.

The Twin Cities is Headed to TFA’s 35th Summit — Are You? 🎉

In June, we had the pleasure of welcoming Niloy Gangopadhyay (San Francisco, ‘02), Vice President of the 35th Anniversary Summit, to the Twin Cities for an engaging conversation about an upcoming milestone event: TFA’s 35th Anniversary Summit!

We were honored to welcome Twin Cities alumni who are creating change in students’ lives inside and outside the classroom — and who are eagerly looking forward to this landmark event taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada from October 2–3, 2026.

During our June 16 Alumni Happy Hour, Twin Cities alumni joined the TFA team to share the “why” behind their teaching journey and their continued commitment to ensuring all students have access to an excellent education. Alumni reflected on memories from their time with TFA, the lasting impact of their service, and their growth as leaders in schools and communities across the region.

TFA’s 35th Anniversary Summit will bring together more than 10,000 alumni, corps members, partners, and community leaders — making it the largest gathering in our organization’s history and the first national summit in nearly a decade. We hope to see you there! 🎉

Last week, we had the honor of welcoming community leaders to our 2026 Corps Member Summer Practicum at Hmong College Prep Academy. We are extremely grateful for the leaders who joined us — leaders from the education sector, philanthropy, and key stakeholders helping shape the educational landscape in Minnesota.

Our visiting community leaders had the unique opportunity to step into our training spaces, observe our incoming corps members as they prepare to lead classrooms across the Twin Cities, and witness what it truly means to build a movement for educational opportunity.

Our goal at Teach For America is to develop and support excellent educators committed to bettering educational opportunities for all.
Summer Practicum plays a critical role in that journey, laying the groundwork for corps members’ success in the classroom and beyond.✨

Thank you, community leaders and partners, for your invaluable support.

Today, we honor Juneteenth and the strength, resilience, and hope carried by the Black community through generations. That spirit lives within the TFA network, where Black educators and leaders are building classrooms and communities grounded in possibility, excellence, and action. 💜

Today, we spotlight TFA Twin Cities alumni and community leaders who embody that legacy:

Averi M. Turner (Twin Cities '19) is an educator, school leader, and community advocate. A 2025 Minnesota Teacher of the Year semifinalist, Averi has served on the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, as Vice-President and Park At-Large Commissioner for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, and as a career coach for TeachMN.

Markus Flynn (Twin Cities '19) is the Chief Executive Officer at Black Men Teach, leading bold efforts to recruit, prepare, and retain Black male elementary educators — building cross-sector partnerships to ensure Black boys see themselves reflected in the classroom.

Remesha Williams (Twin Cities '23) is a Special Education Teacher at Hiawatha Academies – Northrup and the recipient of the 2025 Spencer Family Special Educator of the Year Award, recognized for her unwavering belief in every learner.

We are proud to celebrate these leaders on Juneteenth — a reminder that our corps members and community leaders don't just teach; they transform communities. 🩵
