Sustainable protein! Kenya is one of the most developed countries in East Africa this is due to its booming economy and the government that is investing in .

In this country I, Jorn Mulderij, did my internship at the company . As the name insectipro indicates it producing insect protein. Growing Black Soldier Flies ( ) on food waste streams to use as high quality protein in the feed sector.

When I started my internship my assignment was;’’ how to scale up the production to a capacity of producing 20 ton of black soldier flies larvae (BSFL) a month.’’ At the moment when I arrives very small old plastic greenhouse was used to produce BSFL.

During my I had the freedom to try and experiment a lot in order to scale up the production. As there is no guideline or machinery available to produce insects creativity of my and Talash ( the owner of the farm) was needed in order to make something work. When I left a plan was written about what improvements, and investments where needed in order to reach the 20 ton per month goal. Now InsectiPro is the biggest producer of BSF in east Africa. InsectiPro is continue to develop and expanding their business in order to stay the biggest.

Hi everyone, my name is Marthe, a third year student in ( and ) and I would like to share my internship experience at .

is an internationally operating feed company that offers Total solutions for and . ForFarmers is not only focusing on feed but also on other subjects that are important in the sector, such as quality. I focus mainly on piglets. My research is about how to define pig quality and how pig quality can be made visible- and measurable.

My internship at ForFarmers involves many different things such as: desk research, data analysis and practical work. ForFarmers gave me the opportunity to help with a research project that they are working on in collaboration with two other companies that are involved in the pig sector. Which involves going to a pig farm and collect different types of samples from piglets. I enjoyed this and got an inside look into a pig farm which was valuable for my own research.

ForFarmers is really open and gives you a lot of space for new ideas and input and they involve you in the company. ForFarmers values your own learning process and a lot of things are possible if you just ask. You will not be alone, there are many other interns which can be helpful and fun! Because of the Corona virus, not everything went as planned however the guidance from both Has and ForFarmers is really good and I am thankful for that.

During my work experience place, at the chicken farm, different activities take place. From taking care of the new born chicks to eventually selling them to the loyal customers in a matter.

Here, the meat of typical Dutch breeds and eggs get sold, but other rare species of common fruits which are also organically grown on the farm. I've learned so much already in this short period. It is truly captivating to be part of the chain which takes place on De farm.

Hi! I am Josefine (21), a second-year and student from Northern Germany. I came to the in 2018 because offered me the unique combination of a degree a with a focus on (and much more).

After doubting in the beginning whether it was the right decision to leave my home country, I now know more than ever how valuable it is to be at the HAS these days.

In these special times, I am travelling back and forth between Den Bosch and my hometown but can always rely on quality online education.

I already did an internship in Ireland in my first year on an organic vegetable farm. This summer, I will start my third year of the programme, which is supposed to be filled with internships and semesters abroad.

Because of the pandemic, my plans are still very uncertain since original plans got cancelled & my minor at the University of Florida is still on the line as well. But with the help of the IFA staff, I am working on alternatives that still make my Year 3 worthwhile despite the global limitations - and I am confident it will work out to be a valuable experience either way.
