Safa and SAB announce study assistance programme

The South African Breweries (SAB) in close partnership with the South African Football Association (Safa) have announced the official opening of the SAB League Study Assistance Programme.
“The programme is part of SAB’s refined approach to its involvement in the country’s largest football development league that boasts over 30 000 participants nationwide,” read a joint statement issued by Safa and SAB.
SAB will fund the tertiary study related fees of qualifying SAB League players in a course of their choice.
“The Study assistance programme will present the players with a unique opportunity to work their way towards a professional football career with the advantage of a solid foundation of an academic qualification, which has become key in modern sports. This is in line with SAB’s vision of offering a holistic approach to football development through the SAB League,” says Octavius Phukubye,
SAFA’s Director of Competitions Balebetse Monnakgotla, says the introduction of the study programme was a step in the right direction for the overall development of football.
“Our partnership with SAB continues to yield incredible results for Safa’s vision of football development. We have the opportunity to produce footballers who can be good role models in our communities while at the same time improve the standard of football in our country” says Monnakgotla.
Application forms to participate in the Study Assistance Programme were made available at Safa regional offices countrywide from Monday, February 8.
