Throughout its 190 year history Georgetown College has been on the forefront of Christian and Baptist higher education. Ten years ago the college was asked to apply for a $2 million grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. for the “theological exploration of vocation.” In 2001 the college received this funding and began the Meetinghouse programs, a five year plan for students, faculty, and churches. The Christian Leaders Scholars and the Ministry Student Formation programs were begun for students. Georgetown faculty began meeting each May for a summer seminar on vocation, and the Young Scholars in the Baptist Academy began meeting in Oxford, England. The programs were successful and Lilly supplied a further $500,000 grant in 2006 to help integrate these programs into the on-going life of the college. In 2010 Georgetown College formed the Center for Christian Discernment and Academic Leadership (CDAL) to continue many of the Meetinghouse activities on a permanent basis. Dr. Roger Ward, Meetinghouse Grant Coordinator will direct the CDAL as it begins its work through the Academic Programs of Georgetown College under the leadership of Provost Dr. Rosemary Allen.
