Good taste, but poor performance? Austen uses music in her works to create tension and subtext in her novels. Support our Kickstarter on its very last day!
Jane Austen's Desk
Welcome to 1813. Jane Austen's Desk is a free, interactive, public humanities portal to Austen's creative world.
It was designed by the Jane Austen Collaborative, Inc. and initially funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Dance played an important role in society during Austen’s time. To learn more about the music that she may have danced to and knew how to play, support our Kickstarter!
Merry Christmas from the Desk! Support our Kickstarter, and enjoy this rendition of Deck the Halls🎄🎄🎄
Meet Muzio Clementi—pianist, composer, piano maker, and a key figure in the music Jane Austen collected and played. From sonatas to waltzes, his music shaped Austen’s world. Help us bring it back to life and support our Kickstarter!
Jane Austen took lessons throughout much of her childhood and young adulthood. Learn about one such lesson here—and support our mission to add more on our Kickstarter in the bio!
DAY 2: Today we celebrate not only the lovers (feuding and otherwise) in Austen's novels, but also the countless lovers Austen has inspired in fiction and film world-wide.
In honor of Jane Austen's Semiquincentennial, the Jane Austen Summer Program/ Jane Austen Collaborative Team has made a new version of Twelve Days of Christmas! We will release one verse a day until December 28th, the day our Kickstarter Campaign for Jane Austen's Desk ends. The lovely and talented Dr Laura Klein sings the refrain, and the rest of our Jane Austen Summer Program, Jane Austen & Co., and JaneAustensDesk.org team sings the rest! Lyrics by Jane Austen Collaborative, Inc.
