We put enormous effort into finding the right person, and far less into a harder question, whether we are ready to be loved when they arrive. Falling for someone is often the simple part. What tends to undo relationships is the set of patterns we carry from long before we met anyone, the urge to withdraw when things get close, the pull towards people who were never available, the private certainty that we will be let down. Readiness is not about being flawless. It is about knowing those patterns well enough that they stop running the show, and being honest enough to name what gets in love's way.
We're hosting a Live Online Book Club on 27 August exploring How Ready Are You for Love? It's free for Community Members, so log in to the app to reserve your place.
