Invisible Republic International Conference on Music, Lettrism and the Avant-Gardes

The idea of unknown countries and invisible republics that lie beneath our eyes, a subterranean dimension that is striving to take its own form and structure in order to produce something new, are part of contemporary forms of protest and rehabilitation. Lettrism and post-war vanguards were part of the general insatisfaction of times but still produced a fair amount of formidable works and legacy.

The conference aims at explore this connections and dimensions putting apparently distant groups and movements in an unexpected harmony. An harmony made not of a continuous progress, but full of contradictions, setbacks and surprises.

The open access book, Music, the Avant-Garde and Counterculture: Invisible Republics, was published yesterday by Palgrave Macmillan and will be available in print in 2025. Today we already have more than a thousand accesses!

This is an open access book. It studies how the complex relationship between music, the avant-garde, and counterculture challenges all sorts of boundaries.
