Government warns unlicensed money lenders

GOVERNMENT has warned individuals and companies operating money lending businesses without valid licences that they risk prosecution as such operations are illegal under the Laws of Zambia.

In a public notice issued through the Office of the secretary to the treasury, the Ministry of Finance and National Planning said all money lenders must comply with the provisions of the Money Lenders Act, Cap 398, which requires anyone conducting money lending business to obtain a licence.

The ministry urged those currently operating illegally to regularise their status without delay.

“This serves to remind individuals and companies conducting money lending business that they are required, under the Money Lenders Act, to acquire a money lending licence,” the notice read.

“Be warned that operating a money lending business without a valid licence is an offence under the Laws of Zambia.”

Authorities further directed both existing and prospective money lenders to apply for or renew their licences through the Office of the Accountant General under the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.

The ministry outlined several requirements for obtaining a licence, including registration with the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) and a valid tax clearance certificate from the Zambia Revenue Authority, or a Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN) for individuals.

Applicants are also required to obtain a police clearance certificate, with fingerprints needed for company directors, as well as a money lender’s certificate issued by a magistrate or subordinate court.

Here are the key details regarding this event:
The Command (Numbers 21:8): After the Israelites complained against God and Moses, God sent poisonous "fiery serpents" among the people, causing many to die. When the people repented, God told Moses to "make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole".
The Promise (Numbers 21:8): God promised that "everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live".
The Ex*****on (Numbers 21:9): Moses made a snake out of bronze (or brass) and mounted it on a pole.
The Result (Numbers 21:9): Whenever someone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze serpent, they were healed and lived.
Significance and Later History:
Symbol of Faith: The bronze snake was not magical itself; rather, it was a test of faith and obedience to God's word.
Symbolism of the Cross: In the New Testament, Jesus references this event, saying, "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life" (John 3:14-15).
Destruction of the Idol: Years later, in the time of King Hezekiah, the Israelites began to burn incense to the bronze serpent, treating it as an idol. Because of this, Hezekiah destroyed it and called it "Nehushtan" (meaning a thing of brass).

Acts 19:11-12, it is recorded that God performed extraordinary miracles through the Apostle Paul, wherein handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were taken to the sick, resulting in their healing and the expulsion of evil spirits.

ADVERTISEMENT:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Zambians that meet the minimum requirements outlined here below to apply for undergraduate GRZ Student Loans for the 2024/2025 Academic Year at the University of Zambia.

ELIGIBILITY:
(criteria to qualify for a student loan)

Applicants should be:
(i) The student who is applying should be a Zambian citizen by birth, with Green National Registration Card.

(ii) School leavers who have been accepted at UNZA to begin in 2024 or 2025.

(iii) Pupils Completed Grade 12 in the years; 2020, or 2021, or 2022, or 2023.

(iv) The Student who is Applying for the Loan must not be older than 26 years old.

METHOD OF APPLICATION:

(a) Write a letter saying that you are applying for s Student Loan because you have seen this advert (with reference to the advert).

(a) Photocopy of Admission Letter for 2024/2025 Academic year at UNZA. (proof that you have been accepted).

(c) Photocopy of Grade 12 Certificate or Statement of Results.

(d) Photocopy of Applicant's NRC.

(e) Photocopy of NRC of Parents or Guardian.

(d) One recent Passport Size Photo. Write your name at the back.

(e) Application Form bought from any NETSAVE branch.

(f) T-PIN Certificate (ZRA)

ORDER:
Organise all the above documents and pack them inside the Netsave Form, then present them for consideration.
