In the early '90s, Riverside’s Eastside community was plagued with crime, poverty and violence.

To help provide a solution, the University Eastside Community Collaborative (UECC) was formed in 1994 by the City of Riverside, Riverside Unified School District and the University of California, Riverside. The partnership between the city, school district and university was among the first of its kind in the country designed to provide a better life for young people.
