HCI Ortus Parent Support Group HCI ORTUS Parent Support Group discussion and sharing platform for news, photos, videos and events.

The Ortus Parent Support Group (OPSG) was formed in 2004 with the aim of providing an avenue for parents to receive and/or give support to fellow parents. Ortus Consortium serves as the liaison between OPSG and HCI, and renders support whenever necessary. All parents of Ortus students are automatic members of the OPSG.

Our Ortus Secondary 1 Networking Night on 6 February was a heartening evening of connection, as parents from all three Sec 1 classes came together to begin this new chapter alongside our boys.

We started the evening over dinner, enjoying relaxed conversations and the chance to get to know one another. Mr Joseph Sim, Director of Ortus Consortium, and Ms Lara Tan, Chair of the Ortus PSG Exco, then warmly welcomed everyone. We were especially encouraged by the sharing from three Ortus students, who spoke candidly about their journeys in HCI — their adjustments, challenges and growth — giving us reassurance that our boys will find their footing in time.

In the breakout sessions that followed, parents gathered by class for more personal conversations, guided by our Exco members and Advisors. It was comforting to realise that many of us share similar hopes, questions and experiences.

As our children take their first steps in HCI, please know that you are not walking this journey alone. The school and the Ortus PSG stand alongside you, and we look forward to growing together as a community in the years to come.

2月6日举行的 启元中一家长交流之夜，是一个让人倍感温心的晚上。来自三班中一家长齐聚一堂，一起为孩子们的新阶段开启一个美好的开始。

当晚大家先共进晚餐，在轻松的氛围中彼此认识、交流。随后，由启元共识联科长Mr Joseph Sim 以及 启元家长会执委主席Ms Lara Tan 致欢迎辞。三位启元学长也真诚分享了他们在华中的学习旅程，从适应中一生活、面对挑战，到在课业与CCA之间找到平衡，让我们这些家长听了倍感安心——原来每个孩子都会慢慢找到自己的节奏。

接下来的分班小组交流，让家长们有更深入的分享与讨论。在执委会成员和顾问的带领下，大家坦诚交流对孩子的期望、担心与经验。那一刻，我们都感受到——原来彼此的期待和想法都是那么相似。

当孩子们踏入华中的新篇章，也想告诉各位家长：这条路，我们不是一个人走。学校与启元家长会会一直陪伴在侧。在接下来的几年，让我们同心同行，陪伴孩子成长，携手打造更具温度的家长群体

On 7 January 2026, the Ortus PSG welcomed our boys — both new and returning — with our specially customised Ortus candies, which made a return this year in two delightful flavours. It was a small gesture to mark the start of the school year and to remind our boys that they are supported by a caring and united Ortus community.

As we look back over the first weeks of term, we hope the sweetness of that day continues to energise and encourage them as they settle into their routines, forge new friendships, and embrace new challenges. Here’s to a meaningful and fulfilling year ahead for all our boys.

2026年1月7日，启元家长会特别为所有同学准备了订制的启元糖果，欢迎大家回到校园。今年更推出两种特别口味，为孩子们的新学年增添一份甜蜜与祝福。这份小小的心意，承载着启元大家庭对孩子们满满的关怀与支持。

转眼间，新学年已展开数周。愿那天的甜蜜与温暖，继续陪伴同学们适应新的节奏，结识新的朋友，勇敢迎接新的挑战。祝愿大家在新的一年里收获成长、喜乐与美好的回忆。

Ortus Consortium EOY Treats 2025

As the academic year draws to a close, the Consortium EOY Treats event was a heartwarming and joyful way for the Ortus community to come together in celebration of a year filled with dedication, resilience, and growth. Students gathered to relax and enjoy a morning of well-deserved treats, from refreshing drinks and snacks to a special visit from the nostalgic ice cream uncle, whose classic ice cream sandwiches brought smiles all around. The campus was filled with laughter, chatter, and the joyful energy that comes from shared achievements and lasting friendships.

For our Secondary 4 students, this event carried special meaning as they prepare to progress to College 1 next year. Emotions ran high as they looked back on their journey in Ortus, one filled with learning, leadership, and growth. We wish them the very best as they step confidently into their next chapter at college.

To our Secondary 2 students, thank you for bringing enthusiasm and warmth to the consortium this year. Whether you remain in Ortus or explore new avenues, may your path ahead be equally rewarding.

Finally, our deepest gratitude goes to the Ortus Consortium Parent Support Group for their tireless dedication, and teamwork. Your unwavering support has made every event possible.

启元学年末欢庆活动

随着学年临近尾声，启远共识联精心准备了“学年末欢庆活动”，邀请同学、老师与家长们共同回顾这个充满收获与成长的一年。校园里处处洋溢着欢声笑语，师生们欢聚一堂，在轻松愉快的氛围中交流分享。大家一边享用清爽的饮品小食与经典冰淇淋三明治，一边绽放灿烂笑容，同窗情谊与校园回忆在此刻更显珍贵。

对中四同学而言，这场欢聚更承载着特别的意义。愿你们在O水准高级华文考试中自信挥洒、佳绩飞扬！也祝愿大家在明年升入高中部时，持续进步、更上一层楼。

感谢中二同学们过去两年为启元带来的热情与温暖。无论你们明年继续留在启元，或是开始新旅程，愿前路皆精彩，收获永相伴。

The Combined Sports Meet 2025 ended with a bang at Hwa Chong Stadium on 25th July! Co-organised by HCI, HCIS, and NYGH, the event was filled with exciting sports, festive food booths by students and PSGs, and an electrifying atmosphere despite the sweltering heat.
A huge thank you to all Ortus parent volunteers:
• To our lightning-fast relay team - your dedication, teamwork, and perseverance led to a well-deserved 2nd place win. True role models to our boys!
• To our early birds who ran the popular ‘Gongcha’ bubble tea booth—you kept the kids cool and happy!
• To our photographers, who captured the day’s best moments.
• And to our cheerleaders, whose energy lifted the whole stadium!
Kudos also to our Ortus boys who ran with heart and showed outstanding sportsmanship.

2025 年联校运动会于 7 月 25 日在华中大操场圆满落幕！此次盛会由华侨中学、华中国际学校与南洋女中联合举办，现场不仅有精彩纷呈的比赛，还有由学生和家长会设立的美食摊位，尽管烈日炎炎，气氛依旧热烈，欢声笑语不断。
衷心感谢所有家长志愿者的鼎力支持：
• 向我们闪电般的接力队家长们致敬-你们展现了非凡的团队合作、毅力与奉献精神，勇敢参赛并夺得第二名，成为孩子们的榜样！
• 感谢一大早到场的家长们为人气“贡茶”饮料摊位出力，不仅补水解渴，也为孩子们带来笑容！

Once again, Ortus PSG started the new year with a prosperity toss or 'Lo Hei' on 6 Feb 2025 to deliver blessings to our Ortus students and teachers.

Together with our Ortus PSG's parents, we managed to deliver 3 sets of abalone 'Yu sheng' to each class from S1-S4. Our boys and teachers had a ball at shouting out blessings while tossing the 'Yu sheng' salad. The classrooms were filled with joy and laughter.

'Lo Hei' refers to a Chinese New Year tradition where people gather to a toss of salad with either raw fish or abalone representing abundance. During the toss, idioms of well wishes were shouted out, signifying good intentions and blessings for the new year. The higher the toss, the higher the possibility of one's wishes coming true.

We were glad to have Mr. Joseph Sim, Ortus consortium director, to grace our event and are grateful to receive his blessings for our boys.

It was a great bonding event for all the students, teachers, and parents to celebrate and welcome the Year of the Snake.

Ortus exco would like to thank all the volunteers who took time off to help out and made this 'Lo Hei' a memorable and fun event for our boys.

2025年2月6日，启元共识联再次以“捞鱼生”的方式开启了新的一年，为启元的学生和老师们送上祝福。

“捞鱼生”是新年的传统习俗，人们聚在一起捞起鱼生，象征来年丰收。在捞起的过程中，大家会喊出吉祥的成语，寓意着对新年的美好祝愿。捞得越高，愿望实现的可能性就越大。各个班级的学生和老师们在捞起鱼生时高声喊出祝福语，场面热闹非凡，教室里充满了欢声笑语。

启元共识联科长Mr. Joseph Sim在当天也与家长义工们一起捞鱼生，并为学生们送上祝福。

这次活动为学生、老师和家长们提供了一个绝佳的互动机会，共同庆祝并迎接蛇年的到来。

启元家长执委会衷心感谢所有抽出时间前来帮忙的家长。正是你们的付出让这次“捞鱼生”活动成为学生们难忘而愉快的回忆。

The Ortus PSG had our Secondary One Parents’ Symposium on 23 January. There was a booth set up for parents to pop by to grab our Ortus merchandise like the Ortus polo tee. At the symposium, we had addresses by the Principal, as well as Mr Joseph Sim, Ortus Consortium Director. Next, there was sharing by the PSG and parents then met with respective form teachers in their boys’ classes.

We hope the Sec One parents have learnt more about the school and are more assured that the boys are in good hands in this new environment. We welcome you into our Ortus family and look forward to seeing you at our various events in future!

The Ortus PSG welcomed our boys, new and old, back to school with customised Ortus candies (limited edition!) We hope all the boys kickstart the year full of energy, creating sweet memories along the way! Go go go!

为了欢迎新旧成员返校回到华中大家庭，启元家长会特地于一月七日准备了限量版的启元糖果礼包分发给同学们。好的开始是成功的一半，希望同学们以满满的正能量，迎接新的学年！让我们一起携手同行，共创更多美好回忆！

Ortus Year End Treat!

This last day of school, the Ortus PSG continued to appreciate and celebrate our boys’ hard work and achievements throughout the year!

The event saw the PSG volunteers enthusiastically scooping out mini ice cream cones on cups of root beer to create the ever well-loved root beer floats to the Ortus boys. Bags of chips and Oreo cookies were also given out, as well as yummy freshly baked muffins for the graduating cohort!

On top of the snacks galore, we had the Milo truck come in for the 2nd year in a row, where all of the HCI boys (not just Ortus) can enjoy unlimited cups of the old school goodness of Milo with that extra oomph, dispensed from the Milo truck directly.

We hope all the boys had a fulfilling year, and that the event helped wrap up 2024 with a bang!

The Ortus PSG wishes all the best to the graduating cohort. May the boys look back on their high school years in HCI Ortus with fond memories, and create even more wonderful ones in their journey in JC! All the best!

启元年终庆祝会！

在这个学年的最后一天，启元家长会举办了大型庆祝活动，以犒劳男孩们全年的辛勤努力！

在这次的活动中，家长义工们热情地为启元的孩子们盛上深受欢迎的Root Beer加冰淇淋冷饮。此外，还有美味薯片和奥利奥饼干，以及特别为毕业班同学准备的新鲜烘焙松饼！

今年我们也再次迎来Milo饮料供应卡车，为全体华中师生提供3千500百杯的经典Milo。满满的怀旧滋味加上浓浓的氛围感，让大家都乐在其中，为2024画上了一个圆满的句号！

启元家长会也借此机会，祝愿毕业班学子一切顺利，愿孩子们在接下来的高中旅程中收获更多的精彩回忆！❤️❤️❤️

EOY Booster Candies
The End-of-Year (EOY) exams are upon us once again. Ortus PSG has prepared booster candies in the form of packs of chewy candies for our boys. These can help energise them through the chewing, and help give them that extra boost of focus!

Ortus PSG would like to remind our boys to prioritise health and well-being in stressful times. The journey is always more important than the destination, and what makes the journey, is always the attitude!

The Ortus PSG also took the opportunity to send its appreciation to all HCI teachers for being inspirational and encouraging.

We wish all students and teachers great health and exceptional success in their EOY exams!

加油吧亲爱的同学们！
一年一度的年终考试即将来临，启元家委会特地为孩子们准备了“加油”糖果，以示鼓励！

启元家委会想借此机会提醒孩子们，在压力大的时候要多注意身心健康。过程远比结果重要，保持乐观的心态有助让学习过程变得更美好！

最后，我们也要借此机会感谢全体华中师长们在过去一年里给予孩子们的关怀与扶持。

🍱Last Friday on 16 Aug morning, the Sec 4 Ortus boys had our annual Jia You Breakfast arranged by our Ortus PSG. They enjoyed the sumptuous bentos with choices of either fried rice or noodles alongside with fish, chicken and vegetables. There were also drinks and sweet oranges to end off the meal. Not forgetting resounding cheers to edge one another on in the upcoming exams! 📣

🖊️To top it all off, each boy also received a motivational bookmark and cute Pentel gel pen. May they flourish with every word written! 加油！❤️‍🔥

启元家长会在上个星期五为我们中四的孩子们准备了一场加油早餐派对。祝福孩子们在来临的考试，顺顺利利，为初级学院生涯做好准备。

同学们不但享用了一顿丰富的早餐，家长会也为每一个人送上写着祝语的书签及一支笔做为纪念。希望他们妙笔生花，对答如流！
