Meet Francisco, a.k.a. Fran, who’s currently calling Terrace home. He’s our next international student feature of the year! Hailing from sunny Valencia, Spain, Fran’s family consists of his parents and older brother, who’s already dipped his toes in Canadian waters—spending a month in Toronto learning English. So, it seems Canada runs in the family!
Fran enjoys learning about different cultures and experiencing life in various parts of the world. He’s eager to improve his already excellent English and to try all sorts of food. A big fan of fresh fish, he’s already tasted halibut here and is really looking forward to trying salmon. He’s also excited about the prospect of going fishing. Originally, Francisco planned to study in the United States, but when that didn’t work out, his agency suggested Terrace, and he’s very happy with how things turned out. He was pleasantly surprised by how much bigger and different Terrace is compared to his hometown, and he finds the people here great and the atmosphere just right.
This year, Francisco is looking forward to meeting more people, learning about Canadian culture, improving his English, and enjoying activities like fishing and skiing. He’s part of our 2025 Grad class.
If you see Francisco around town, be sure to give him a warm welcome!

Meet Lena, our next international student feature. Currently residing in Terrace, Lena is no stranger to different cultures. She was born in Korea to a Korean father and a German mother, and at just 3.5 years old, the family moved to Europe. Although only 15, Lena has quickly adapted to Canadian life and is excited to get to know her homestay family better.
Lena loves traveling and has a passion for nature and the outdoors. When looking for a place to study abroad, she always had her heart set on Canada and wanted to experience life in a colder climate. Terrace, with its beautiful nature, mountains, friendly people, and good weather, had everything she was looking for.
Unfortunately, Lena’s only here for one semester, but she’s already plotting her return and plans to move here in the future. Her parents miss her, but she says with a smile, “They’ve got me for my whole life—they can handle a few months without me!”

If you spot Lena around town, don’t be shy—say hi! She loves swapping stories and getting to know the locals.
