Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) is the umbrella body for all sports codes of the tertiary institutions of Botswana under the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC). Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA) is a registered association with Botswana registrar of societies and is an affiliate of Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) and an associate memb

er of Botswana National Olympics Committee (BNOC). The Association was formed with the vision of providing the tertiary students in Botswana with a platform to exploit their sporting and performing arts and talents under the theme “Developing the body and mind”. The Association is formed by both Private and Public institutions offering Tertiary Education in Botswana. BOTESSA has the mandate to develop sports and continue on the good work that others have done previously and the advancement of Botswana National Sports Council [BNSC] strategy of developing sports and clean sports for all. BOTESSA as the governing body for Tertiary Students Sports, in addition to other activities, organize championships for all institutions every year of which excelling athletes qualify for International games. OBJECTIVES

The Association is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization. The objectives of the Association are to: -
 Contribute to the sustainable development and promotion of tertiary institutions sport, including students’ physical and sport development.
 Develop and promote sport and competition amongst member affiliates.
 Develop, encourage and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, co-operation and patriotism amongst

member institutions.
 Help students develop their sporting skills.
 Co-operate and liaise with other organizations and persons engaged in sporting endeavors.
 Endeavor to attain the highest possible standards in sporting activities.
 Expose member sportsmen and sportswomen to international competitions
HISTORY OF BOTESSA
The association was formed in 1986 as a premier league until 2000 change to being BOTESSA.

BOTESSA Special General Meeting

This past week, BOTESSA held its Special General Meeting in preparation for the upcoming Elective Annual General Meeting.

The gathering brought together over forty member affiliates from various Institutions of Higher Learning.In line with BOTESSA Elections guidelines an Elections Committee was appointed.

President Mr. Keorapetse also updated members on BOTESSA’s recent activities, key achievements, and major events on the horizon.

BOTESSA Pays Courtesy Visit to Mr Raj Rathedi

This afternoon, BOTESSA President Mr. Setlhare and Vice President Administration Mr. Mtika paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Raj Rathedi at his home.

The visit was held to honour Mr. Rathedi, one of the pillars of tertiary sport development in Botswana, and to recognize his invaluable contribution to the growth and success of BOTESSA. He retired from University of Botswana.

BOTESSA extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Rathedi for his dedication and service. He was joined by his wife, Mrs. Rathedi, during the visit.
