When 18-year-old Nthabiseng Majiya from PHILIPPOLIS scored that all-important goal against Botswana during the Women's Africa Cup of Nations 2022 tournament, not only did she confirmed the team’s spot in the knockout phase but she also placed her hometown on the map.

The award-winning Richmond United player has also cemented the reputation she earned during the Hollywoodbets Super League.

Her family say they are extremely proud of her.

Majiya, who hails from Philippolis, is the only Free State player who is part of the women's national senior team that represented the country and lifted the Women's Africa Cup of Nations trophy on Saturday night in Rabat, Morocco.

When she started her career, she played for an all-male team as there were no other female players in her town.

Her family says they are proud of her achievement and appreciate that she got some game time.

Her coach from Philippolis Chippa Dynamos, Koos Deweet, could not contain his pride.

"I must thank first her family and all the people who pushed her to play for Richmond. I want to thank the coach of Banyana Banyana Desiree Ellis for being patient with someone from a poor background. I think all the people of Philippolis want to say thank you to the coach and the people of SAFA."

When she started, Majiya would carry her father's sports bag to the field.

Today, she is an inspiration to the youth of her community.

Majiya has represented South Africa in international games as a member of the Under-20 team since 2020.

Being in a rich vein of form has earned her the prestigious title of SAFA Young Player of the Season 2021.

I was lucky enough to be at the Bridging Year Graduation on Thursday. So many of these faces who graduated at the Philippolis Campus are the same ones in the first Wielie Walie Preschool pictures. So proud of the GWF team and all the graduates. 🎓💕🎓💕🎓
