The Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women marked a moment of pride during an award ceremony organised by Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi at the college campus. On the occasion, the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria unveiled the Annual Report of the VADA Club for the academic session 2025–26.
The report presents a comprehensive account of the wide-ranging activities undertaken by the club throughout the year under the campaign “Yudh Nashe Ke Virudh,” conducted as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The annual report highlighted several impactful awareness and outreach programmes organised by the club to educate students about the harmful effects of drug addiction and the importance of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The activities included awareness sessions, expert talks, interactive discussions, quiz competitions based on the theme of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, sports activities, yoga and meditation sessions, and mind programming workshops. Eminent academicians, counsellors, professionals, and subject experts from diverse fields were invited to motivate students towards making positive life choices and becoming socially responsible citizens.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma stated that the college remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing socially conscious and empowered youth. She emphasised that through consistent awareness initiatives and meaningful engagement activities, the institution aims to strengthen the resolve of students to become ambassadors of a healthy and drug-free society.

On the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity 2026, the Eco Club- Parivesh of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised an interactive awareness session at Government Model High School, Sector 41-D, Village Badheri, adopted under NSS. The programme aimed to sensitise students towards biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability. This year’s global theme for International Day for Biological Diversity, ‘Acting Locally for Global Impact’, formed the focal point of the session. The event was graced by Mrs. Sanjogita, Headmistress of Government Model High School, Sector 41-D, Village Badheri, who appreciated the dedicated efforts of Eco Club- Parivesh in nurturing environmental consciousness among young learners.
The session was conducted by Dr. Purnima Bhandari, Assistant Professor at the college, along with Eco Club volunteers Ms. Shrinjal Chauhan and Ms. Shranya. Through engaging discussions, informative activities, and awareness-based interactions, the team highlighted the significance of preserving biodiversity and protecting natural ecosystems for future generations. The speakers encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives and actively contribute towards the conservation of flora, fauna, and natural resources. The programme concluded with a collective pledge by students and teachers to safeguard nature and work towards building a greener and healthier environment.

World Himachali Organisation organised its first annual cultural festival, ‘Nyunder 2026’, at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women. Marking the first anniversary celebrations of the organisation, the event showcased the rich cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh while recognising the dedicated service of 50 NSS volunteers from various schools and colleges of Chandigarh for their hard work, dedication and community service by Sh. Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Former Union Minister, Government of India. The event was attended by Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament Sh. Sikandar Kumar and Sh. Anurag Sharma, along with Sh. Rajiv Bhardwaj, Member of Parliament, Kangra-Chamba. Dr. Anoop Kumar Vats, National Coordinator (Colleges), DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, graced the event as the Special Guest, who appreciated the initiative for honouring NSS volunteers while simultaneously preserving and promoting cultural traditions among the youth. Dean, Cultural Affairs at the college, Dr. Sukhpreet Bhatia, was also felicitated for her exemplary contribution towards promoting cultural activities and nurturing artistic talent in the college. Adding vibrancy to the celebrations, renowned Himachali folk singer Karnail Rana enthralled the audience with a mesmerising cultural performance. Traditional Naati performances further highlighted the colourful folk heritage and cultural ethos of Himachal Pradesh. The event concluded with a traditional Himachali Dham, offering guests an authentic experience of Himachali cuisine and hospitality.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a faculty development workshop on the topic ‘National Education Policy 2020: Capacity Building for Effective Curriculum Implementation and Academic Quality Enhancement’. The workshop aimed at providing academic clarity regarding the effective implementation of the NEP 2020 curricular framework.
The workshop featured Prof. Anil Monga, Department of Police Administration and NEP Coordinator, Panjab University, Chandigarh, as the resource person. The workshop served as a meaningful platform for faculty members to examine existing academic practices, identify areas for improvement and explore innovative ways to integrate the principles of NEP 2020 into curriculum design and pedagogy. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and academic administrators, who engaged in insightful discussions on quality enhancement and effective curriculum delivery.

Geetanjali Counselling Helpline Committee and Hostel Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of Directorate of Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, and Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, organised a digital wellness initiative titled ‘Sunday: Say No to Mobile Campaign’ to address the growing concern of digital addiction among youth.
The initiative, aimed at nearly 600 hostel residents, sought to create awareness about the adverse impact of excessive screen time on mental and emotional well-being. Students were encouraged to “unplug” from their devices and observe a “digital detox” hour to improve concentration, emotional balance, and interpersonal engagement with peers. As part of this institutional digital wellness drive, students participated in mindfulness and meditation sessions designed to alleviate stress and anxiety. They also took a pledge to use digital technology responsibly by making conscious choices regarding screen time, minimising unnecessary digital distractions, taking regular social media breaks, and engaging in meaningful activities that nurture mental well-being and healthy social interaction.

Startup Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with Postgraduate Department of Commerce and under the aegis of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised an ‘Inter-Institutional Business Plan Competition and Mentor Linkages’ programme to foster entrepreneurial thinking and innovation among students.
The two-day event commenced with business plan presentations by participating teams, which were evaluated by an eminent panel of judges comprising Mr. Paramdeep Singh Anand, Co-founder of Paid Assist, and Dr. Disha Sharma, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate Department of Commerce. The participants showcased diverse and innovative ventures, highlighting key dimensions such as the unique selling proposition (USP), business concept, SWOT analysis, societal relevance, scalability, and future growth prospects. The second day featured an interactive mentorship and feedback session conducted by Mr. Paramdeep Singh Anand. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 50 students representing various schools and institutions across the tricity. During the mentorship session, the most promising innovations presented in the competition were recognised and awarded cash prizes. The programme concluded with presentations by the core members of the Startup Cell, followed by a short video showcasing the Cell’s journey, achievements, and experiences, reflecting its commitment to nurturing innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among students.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the initiative and stated that such platforms play a crucial role in cultivating creativity, leadership, and problem-solving skills among students. In recognition of its sustained and exemplary contribution to the nationally acclaimed Project Sarathi, the NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women were felicitated during the second annual celebration of ‘Sarathi Day’ held at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
The event was graced by Mr. Rajesh Prasad, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, as the Chief Guest, while Ms. Prerna Puri, Secretary, Education, Chandigarh Administration, attended as the Guest of Honour.
The college was honoured for its outstanding role in supporting and coordinating student volunteer services under Project Sarathi. Over the past year, nearly 200 students from the institution have served under the initiative, reflecting the college’s steadfast commitment to the noble cause. Significantly, 25 NSS volunteers rendered more than 120 hours of dedicated service, exemplifying extraordinary perseverance and social commitment. The NSS volunteers played a vital role in facilitating the smooth functioning of hospital services by assisting patients with registration procedures, guiding them to relevant departments, and creating awareness regarding hospital protocols and facilities. Their consistent efforts greatly enhanced patient experience and contributed towards streamlining hospital operations. Among the volunteers who actively participated in the initiative were Disket, Vanshika, Sonia, Aastha, Manjot, Harpreet, Nanaki, Khushi, Maithali, Bhoomika, Taab, Devanshi, Devyanka, Jiya, Isha, Khanak, Bhumika, Dhriti Chopra, Navdeep, and Nehal.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma expressed immense pride in the dedication and accomplishments of the volunteers. She remarked that such recognition not only acknowledges their sincere efforts but also inspires them to continue striving for higher standards of commitment, empathy, and social responsibility. Geetanjali Counselling Helpline Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a workshop on “Stress Management through Emotional Regulation and Mindfulness” on the occasion of World Health Day. The session was conducted by Dr. Nayanika Singh, Corporate Behavioural Trainer. The primary objective of the workshop was to create awareness about stress and emotional regulation while equipping students with practical, mindfulness-based techniques to enhance emotional resilience and adopt healthy coping strategies, particularly in view of the ongoing Panjab University, Chandigarh semseter examinations.
The workshop commenced with a reflective exercise that enabled students to understand different types of stress and identify their personal emotional triggers. It then progressed to mindfulness practices, including focused breathing exercises, which enhanced students’ awareness of their bodily sensations. Activities based on Expressive Art Therapy encouraged participants to acknowledge and validate their emotions rather than suppress them, highlighting benefits such as mood enhancement, release of pent-up stress, and the activation of positive emotions. An engaging Emotional Role-Playing activity further fostered emotional expression, empathy, and a deeper understanding of diverse emotional experiences. The session concluded on a positive note by emphasising the power of gratitude, reinforcing the importance of appreciation and positive thinking in effective stress management.

The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with the Department of Home Science, organised a workshop titled ‘Hastkala’ at the Anganwadi-cum-Creche, Sector 42 B, Chandigarh. The workshop aimed to foster creativity and promote skill development among participants through hands-on exposure to contemporary art forms. The initiative sought to encourage women, particularly from community settings, to explore avenues for self-reliance and enhanced employability. The session was conducted by Dr. Rati Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science at the college. The initiative proved to be a well-structured effort toward empowering women by equipping them with creative competencies that can potentially translate into livelihood opportunities.

Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women marked Earth Day 2026 with great fervour, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and awareness. The celebration, aligned with the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” was jointly organised by Eco-Club ‘Parivesh’, Department of Botany, NSS Units, Sustainable Practices Committee, and Renewable Energy Committee, with support from the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), New Delhi.
A diverse range of activities was conducted to promote eco-conscious behaviour and sustainable practices. Nearly 400 students participated enthusiastically in events such as a Human Chain Formation, Pledge-Taking Ceremony, Slogan Writing Competition, and a Cleanliness-cum-Single-Use Plastic Collection Drive. The Human Chain initiative served as a powerful visual statement, with students raising awareness through impactful slogans like “Keep the Planet Green, Keep the Energy Clean.” As part of the plastic collection drive, a substantial quantity of single-use plastic waste was gathered and formally handed over to the Municipal Corporation for proper and sustainable disposal. The Slogan Writing Competition witnessed participation from 58 students, who presented creative and thought-provoking entries highlighting the urgency of environmental conservation, adoption of renewable energy, and responsible use of natural resources. Additional highlights included a workshop on seed ball preparation, an awareness session on indoor air-purifying plants, and an exhibition of working models based on renewable energy. To further encourage sustainable habits, cloth bags and stationery kits were distributed among students and staff. Students were also sensitised to digital tools developed by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, such as Mausam (weather forecasting), Meghdoot (agricultural advisories), and India Quake (earthquake monitoring), enhancing their engagement with environmental monitoring systems.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma commended the coordinated efforts of the organising committees and lauded the active participation of students. She emphasised that such initiatives play a vital role in cultivating environmental responsibility and empowering young individuals to contribute meaningfully towards a sustainable future.

Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women hosted its Annual Convocation with great enthusiasm and academic solemnity, wherein 773 graduates and postgraduates were conferred degrees, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.
H.E. Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Hon’ble Governor of Haryana, graced the convocation as the Chief Guest, and First Lady of Haryana Madam Mitra Ghosh was the Special Guest. Justice (Retd.) Pritam Pal, Vice-President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, and Prof. Yogesh Kumar Rawal, Dean Students’ Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh, graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. The Hon’ble Governor granted an amount of Rs. 10 lacs for the welfare of students in the institution.
The ceremony commenced with the auspicious Saraswati Vandana, setting a reverent tone for the proceedings. This was followed by the presentation of the Annual Report by the Officiating Principal, Ms. Neena Sharma. The report highlighted the college’s notable achievements during the academic session 2025-26 across academic excellence, sports accomplishments, and cultural pursuits. The double blind peer reviewed research journal of the college- New Horizons was released by the dignitaries on this occasion.
Congratulating the graduating students, Ms. Sharma lauded them for upholding the institution’s legacy of excellence through their commendable achievements. She urged them to remain steadfast and focused in their future endeavours, advising them not to rest on past laurels but to strive continuously towards their goals with determination and integrity.
