EdFang Piano Studio was founded in 2012 by Edwin with the sole mission of providing affordable music education of the highest quality to the heartlands. We believe in empowering our learners through music education, enriching the lens in which they view the world in.

Edwin Fang is a Singaporean classical pianist whose work bridges performance, r

esearch, and education. A versatile educator, he works with students ranging from young beginners to advanced pianists, adapting his approach to each learner’s needs. He has been invited to give masterclasses, conduct internal examinations for private music institutions, and in 2025 was inducted into the Happy Music Festival Hall of Fame in recognition of his teaching achievements. Edwin earned his Master of Arts (Research) in Music from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) under the supervision of A/P Eugene Dairianathan and A/P Leonard Tan. His research explored the enigmatic dimensions in the music of Russian composer Nikolai Medtner, uncovering deeper ways of understanding the language of classical music. He also holds Licentiates of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) and Trinity College London (LTCL, Distinction) in piano performance, and has received scholarship offers for postgraduate piano studies. His principal teachers include Timothy Ku, and in his formative years, Akiko Iijima and Joycelyn Chng. As a performer, Edwin has appeared in the Dorothy Cheung Memorial Fund Concert Series, presenting a programme of Haydn and Medtner based on his research. Passionate about collaborative and contemporary repertoire, he has performed two-piano works by Brahms, Medtner, Rachmaninoff, and Shostakovich at NTU Piano Ensemble’s Eleganza and SMU Arts Fest. Together with his duo partner, he presented Robert Casteels’ Rakhmania for Two Pianos at NUS Piano Ensemble Alumni’s Touched 2023 Concert Series, and appeared with the MacPherson Philharmonic Orchestra under Lester Kong, performing Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. Edwin graduated with First Class Honours in Physics from NTU, where he was a multiple-time Dean’s List awardee and was offered a PhD scholarship in Physics. In his free time, Edwin enjoys contemplating the fate of the universe

These sessions are an important part of the preparation process, helping students build confidence, manage nerves, and gain valuable performance experience before their exams.

Last Evening's Performance Class:

In a world that celebrates quick results, it is easy to forget how painstakingly difficult musical growth really is. Behind every polished performance are countless hours of practice, repeated mistakes, moments of frustration, lessons that seem to go nowhere, and small improvements that often go unnoticed from week to week.

The truth is that musicians are not built in a month, a year, or even through the completion of an examination grade.

That is why performance classes are so valuable. They allow students to experience music beyond the practice room. To learn how to prepare, how to recover from mistakes, how to listen to one another, and how to communicate something meaningful through sound.

As a teacher, there is perhaps no greater privilege than witnessing this journey unfold over the years. Seeing students who were once hesitant beginners grow into confident and thoughtful musicians is deeply rewarding.

I am proud of every student who performed last night. Not because everything was perfect, but because each performance represented another step in a much longer journey.

Well done, everyone. Keep going. The most meaningful growth often happens one small step at a time.
