Meet Igor Parkhomenko! ❤️
Igor is a third year studying computer science, and is the FGSU Media Coordinator! ‼️
When asked why he joined the FGSU, Igor said: ✨
“I love helping people and providing them with good resources. FGSU students might find it overwhelming to come to UBC, so I look forward to assisting them with this transition.”

Meet Nemat Haroon!❤️
Nemat is a returning mature UBC student doing a second degree in computer science, after completing a degree in Microbiology & Immunology. Nemat is serving as our treasurer ‼️
In his free time, Nemat likes to discuss politics, hike, and read history books!
When asked why he joined the FGSU, Nemat said: ✨
“As a first gen student, there is a lot of pressure and stress when coping with a new atmosphere alongside the expectations. Finding an outlet and guidance is what helped me, and I plan on paying that forward. with the help of an amazing team, I hope to expand FGSU’s outreach and support to more student groups.

Meet Jasrasan Kaur! ❤️
Jasrasan is currently serving as our VP Internal! ‼️
She is a first year in the faculty of arts who enjoys reading and singing in her free time!
When asked why she joined the FGSU, Jasrasan said:✨
“When I came across FGSU I was very fascinated by the work they do. Being a first generation student as well, I had always hoped to make more people aware of the issues that First-generation and low-income (FGLI) students face. The FGSU is also a great place to meet like-minded individuals!”

In collaboration with we will be hosting a cooking demo using ingredients available at the food hub! ❤️
We will be making rice bowls together, and would love to see all of you there! 🍚
This will take place on Thursday April 6th from 2-3:30pm in the FoodHub (CIRS Main Floor).🤩
‼️ Please bring your own reusable bowl, and we look forward to seeing you all there! ‼️

Meet Vishwa V Sharma! 🤩
Vishwa is majoring in Mathematics, and is serving as FGSU VP External‼️
In their free time, Vishwa likes to hang out with friends, and also loves the maccha ice cream from Nana’s Green Tea in Kerrisdale.❤️
When asked why they’re involved in the FGSU, they said: ✨
“I really enjoy spending my time with this group of people on our FGSU executive team. Being part of working with the First Generation Community on progress and involvement with representation, community-building, and programming has been, and continues to be a rewarding experience.”

Meet Parvin Malhi! 🤩
Parvin is a fourth year science student majoring in Microbiology and Immunology! She is serving as the FGSU President ‼️
In her free time Parvin likes to play soccer, hike, read, volunteer in the community, travel, or catch up with friends/ family.❤️
When asked why she’s involved in the FGSU, this is what she said:
“The transition from high school to post-secondary education can be daunting for many students and being first-generation and/or low income adds additional barriers and challenges. As the President, I hope to create a supportive environment for first-generation and low-income students (FGLI) on campus, destigmatize the first-genetation identity and work with campus partners to create resources and opportunities for FGLI students.”
