A PARADIGMATIC EXAMINATION OF LEADERSHIP STYLES OF CURRENT GLOBAL ACTORS AND THE PHENOMENON OF WARS AND CONFLICTS
Dr. Musbau Abdulazeez
Director General, Institute of Advanced Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development I-LEAD, Abuja
For any one to understand the dynamics and the fervour that drives the intermittent global wars and conflicts especially imposed or waged by nations with superior military, economic and political powers, you must also have more than a layman's understanding of the world's history and the huge contributions of scholar war on why nations go to war and will continue to go to war as the enduring establishment of peace does not work in the interest of global players strive for economic dominance. Every war has an underlying economic goals and for every conflicts the struggles for control of territory and the resources beneath presents a great incentives for the endless wars we have witnessed since the state of nature.
To appreciate the phenomenon of wars and why economic resources and political dominance are a major driving force, we must appraise the submission of scholars of war such as the Chinese statesman, Sun Tzu, in his the "Art War", believes that without the deployment and application raw force it is impossible to dominate an opponent, control him and direct his affairs. His position agrees with that of Thomas Hobbes. He is of the opinion that the international system is anarchic in nature with the most powerful getting their will imposed by wielding the "sword".
Hence, we have witnessed the Arab-islamic war of religious conquests delivering authoritarian control over hitherto feared kingdoms, empires and suzereins such as Spain, Persia, African tribal kingdoms among many. The Arabian Islam-influenced war of conquests was known for its devastating violence and wide destruction of societies, civilizations and ethos and the re-establishments of an Islamic ways of life. The Islamic wars of conquests was not without a precedent. The European Christian crusade was more debilitating in its savagery and bloodshed. It consolidated slavery of the "heathens" of Africa or what they grotesquely called "savage idol societies of dark societies". They prized Africans as objects of possession and derived a sense of triumph hunting down black people as games. They incorporated into their culture a twisted belief system which defined blacks as people less intellectual capabilities and incapable of logical reasoning.
However, the ascendancy of the neoliberal western world with its conventional weapons of mass destruction such as nuclear bombs, inter continental ballistic missiles, chemical and biological weapons and lately nuclear mortar artilleries and futuristic fighter jets present the most direct existential threat against humanity than at any other time in history.
We have sadly returned to the era of Christian themed war of conquests led by the ruthless Anglo-American war machine and their minions whose desire remains a permanent subjugation of the rest of humanity which does not share in their perceptions of faith, economic dominance, mineral resources exploitation and control of national governments. The current era has never been witnessed by the world in her chequered history. An era in which powerful nations armed to the teeth, are led by narcissistic leaders with psychiatric illusions of self-righteousness. They believe they possesses unquestioned powers to destroy nations as often boasted by Mr. Trump. The world is witnessing a reenactment of the dangerous nationalistic militarism of brute force against opposing views and independent thoughts and actions. As the world navigate a not too familiar road towards the possibility of a nuclear warfare with all its attendant consequences, the United Nations, like its predecessor, the League of Nations, has been reduced to some pitiable museum of antiquity where documents are passed as a symbol of bureaucratic bogey without substances.
The United States under the unpredictable Donald Trump must understudy the fate of many powerful empires. They rely on brute force, mass destruction, state terror and infliction of large scale human miseries and suffering through senseless wars and destruction to sustain their control. The US has done more harm than good to the human race by its unenviable record of being the only country in history so far to have dropped nuclear bombs on large civilian populations of Horoshima and Nagasaki on 6th August 1945. It fought a baseless ideological war for almost two decades in Vietnam and caused much pains for that Asian country. It invaded Grenada, invaded Cuba in the Bay of Pigs Fiasco, invaded Panama and kidnapped a sitting president. It has sanctioned dozens of countries on frivolous excuses with deadly repercussions on innocent civilians. It invaded Iraq and caused more than two million civilian deaths and has bombed tens of nations under different guises. It has declared trade wars against the world through thoughtless tariffs and would not even be assuaged by the revered American institution as the Supreme Court.
But by far the scariest of all American indiscretions is the new face it is wearing as the champion of Christian interests across the world by projecting itself as a defender of Christian rights and poking a dangerous finger against peaceful coexistence in religiously mixed and sensitive countries. It is unabashedly tearing down the thin fabric of cohesion holding nations together in the name of America first. Vulnerable countries have been violently r***d and destroyed as exemplified by the terrorist-themed invasion and kidnapping of a serving president in Venezuela and now the impending regime change agenda against the equally stubborn and heady clerical Iranian regime.
The world, has since the second coming of Donald Trump, become a more dangerous place to live !!!
