A new issue of Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education (ELTHE) is now available. Volume 9.3 explores two increasingly important themes in experiential education: sustainability and agency. Across institutional strategy, study abroad, course design, career readiness, and sustainability education, the authors examine how educators, students, and communities can intentionally design, adapt, and sustain meaningful learning experiences.

Congratulations to Dr. Dell Ann Janney!

Janney, professor of accounting at Culver-Stockton College, has been named the 2026 Accounting Faculty of the Year by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).

Throughout her career at C-SC, Janney has made a lasting impact on students, business programs, experiential education initiatives, and the accounting profession. From helping establish C-SC's MBA program to advancing experiential learning across campus, her dedication to education continues to make a difference on the Hill and beyond.

We are proud to see Dr. Janney's outstanding leadership and commitment recognized on an international stage. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

We're excited to announce the Keynote Speaker for the Society for Experiential Education's 55th Annual Conference: Paige R. Andersson, PhD, Senior Assistant Vice Provost for Experiential Learning and Outreach at Indiana University Bloomington.

Dr. Andersson serves as the Senior Assistant Vice Provost for Experiential Learning and Outreach at Indiana University Bloomington. In this role, she leads efforts to expand and elevate opportunities for undergraduate students in undergraduate research, work integrated learning, community engaged learning, and more, while promoting mutually beneficial partnerships across local, national, and global communities.

Prior to her current leadership, Dr. Andersson served in key roles within IU's School of Education, including Executive Director of Student Success and Assistant Director of the Global Gateway for Teachers, where she facilitated placements across the Navajo Nation, Chicago Public Schools, and over 20 countries. She earned her Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of Michigan and previously served on the faculty at DePauw University. Guided by expanding access and ensuring high quality, meaningful experiences, she is honored to serve as a keynote speaker for this year's Society for Experiential Education conference.

The keynote will take place on Tuesday, October 27 at 8:45AM.

The Society for Experiential Education (SEE) is pleased to announce the first recipients of the 2026 Experience Matters Grant Program, a new initiative supporting collaborative scholarship that advances the evidence base and future of experiential learning.

Selected from 20 proposals representing 26 colleges, universities, and nonprofit organizations, three research teams will receive nearly $15,000 in funding to investigate questions that matter to the future of higher education and experiential learning.

The inaugural projects examine:

◼️ Dr. Curt Davidson and Brock Gudeman will explore how a structured experiential learning experience in a wildfire burn scar may influence participants’ climate attitudes and intentions to engage in pro-environmental behavior.

◼️ Drs. Megan Lupek and Elena Dawkins will investigate a more accessible and scalable approach to global experiential learning by combining international virtual collaboration, citizen science, and students’ engagement with their local campus environments.

◼️ JoanMarie Schreiber, Rudolph Princi Jr. MA, CHPP, EMT-P, TP-C, NCEE, CIC, and Marianna Savoca, Ph.D. will examine how degree-seeking students experience a non-credit Emergency Medical Technician program and what that participation reveals about the connections among academic learning, professional preparation, career development, and personal growth.

Thaksheel Alleck, Adam Golian, Talley Lyons, Jake Panzer, Taylor Butler, Michelle Spada, and Eric Obeysekare from Lehigh University examine the motivations and barriers shaping student participation in high-impact opportunities in the latest issue of Experiential Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ELTHE).

Using interviews with students, the authors identify six student personas that can help institutions design more targeted communication, support systems, and interventions to expand equitable access to transformative learning experiences.

Drawing on students’ reflective essays, the article shows how learners frame undergraduate research as journeys, sports, and architectural projects, offering insight into how students understand struggle, progress, scaffolding, and support.
