For those who knew her, Sis. Ball was no less an influence in ministry and LABI than Bro. Ball. Together, they made a God-formed team. Their lives are still an example of marriage and ministry for us today. What memories do you have of Sis. Ball? What impacts do you believe she had on your life or the lives of others as a woman in ministry?

Recuerdo... cuando nací el 5 de agosto de 1895 en Lampasas, Texas. Mi madre falleció el 2 de agosto de 1903 en Beeville, Texas. Acepté al Señor a los 12 años de edad bajo el ministerio de un pastor bautista en Denton, Texas. La primera noche que pasamos en casa de mi tía en Liberty Hill, Texas —el 1 de julio de 1910—, la Sra. J. W. Atwood nos llevó a mi hermana y a mí al primer culto pentecostal al que asistí en mi vida. Una evangelista, la Sra. Lauderdale (quien más tarde se casaría con el Rvdo. Frank Anderson), predicó bajo una poderosa unción del Espíritu. Si hubiera sido obediente y me hubiera rendido ante el llamado del Espíritu, habría pasado al altar esa misma noche, pero me rebelé... Pinson me invitaron a unirme a ellos en San Antonio, Texas, en su esfuerzo por alcanzar a la comunidad latina. Llegué a principios de mayo y comencé a estudiar español con el profesor Díaz. Por aquel entonces, solo dos familias de creyentes latinos formaban parte del grupo; se habían trasladado a San Antonio desde Houston. Instalamos una carpa en la calle Delgado, la cual nos había facilitado la Asamblea Estadounidense... En agosto de 1917, asistí a mi primera convención campestre para latinos en Onion Creek, cerca de Austin, Texas. También asistieron la Srta. Alice E. Luce y H. C. Ball, a quien yo había conocido anteriormente en Fort Worth. Fue en aquella reunión campestre donde H. C. Ball y yo nos enamoramos, aunque ninguno de los dos lo confesó hasta meses más tarde, cuando estuvimos seguros de que estábamos en la voluntad de Dios... En mayo de 1918... anunciamos que nos casaríamos... Una experiencia memorable de nuestros inicios en el ministerio, en la frontera con México, tuvo lugar en Los Indios, Texas, un pueblecito pintoresco situado justo a orillas del Río Grande. Uno podía imaginarse estar en África. La mayoría de las casas eran muy humildes. Llegamos allí tras un viaje accidentado —por los caminos en mal estado de aquella época— a bordo de un viejo Ford... Recuerdo los días que siguieron como algunos de los mejores de mi vida misionera. ¡Cómo se encontraba Dios con nosotros noche tras noche! Siete u ocho almas fueron maravillosamente salvas y muchas otras, gloriosamente llenas del Espíritu Santo. Las hermanas, tímidas al principio, llegaron a ser grandes amigas y me demostraron su amor de muchas maneras. El último día, nos reunimos personas de ambos lados del río —el estadounidense y el mexicano— para un servicio de bautismos. Mientras los fieles de México y Texas seguían al Señor, resonaban cánticos y alabanzas a nuestro Dios. El Sr. Ball bautizó a los creyentes de ambas orillas. «Él da mayor gracia» (Santiago 4:6; ¡y es suficiente!).

It is with great honor that the Yearbook comittee of La Antorcha dedicates this year's Annual to Mrs. Sunshine L. Ball. The following excerpt comes from the program presented at her departure to be with the Lord.
I remember... when I was born August 5, 1895 in Lampasas, Texas. My mother died August 2, 1903 in Beeville, Texas. I accepted the Lord at 12 years of age under the ministry of a Baptist minister in Denton, Texas. On the first night we were in my aunt's home in Liberty Hill, Texas, July 1, 1910, Mrs. J. W. Atwood, took my sister and me, the first night we were with them, to the first Pentecostal service I ever attended. A lady evangelist, Mrs. Lauderdale, who afterwards married Rev. Frank Anderson, preached under a mighty anointing of the Spirit. Had I been obedient and yielded to the wooing of the Spirit I would have gone to the altar that very night, but I rebelled...
I returned to my home in Denton and was most unhappy although seeking after pleasure and worldly things. But, my mother's prayers and that of others followed me. In God's plan and against my own, God led me back to the Atwood home and while the family altar service was conducted the night of August 15, 1911 the Lord wonderfully and fully forgave me and filled me with the Holy Spirit, and at that time I first felt the call of God on my life for ministry... Brother and Sister M. M. Pinson invited me to join them in San Antonio, Texas, in their effort to reach the Latin people. I arrived in the early part of May and began the study of the Spanish language under a Professor Diaz. Only two families of Latin believers belonged to the group then. They moved to San Antonio from Houston. We raised a tent on Delgado Street which the American Assembly had given to us... In August 1917, I attended my first camp meeting among Latins on Onion Creek near Austin, Texas. Miss Alice E. Luce and H. C. Ball, whom I had met earlier in Ft. Worth attended. It was at this camp meeting that H. C. Ball and I fell in love, though neither confessed it until months later when we felt sure we were in God's will... In May, 1918... we announced that we would be married...
One outstanding experience in our early ministry on the Mexican border took place in Los Indios, Texas, a quaint little place right on the banks of the Rio Grande. You could have imagined yourself in Africa. Most of the houses were very humble. We arrived there after a jolting ride over the poor roads of those early days in an old Ford... I look back on the days that followed as some of the best in my missionary life. How God met us night after night! Seven or eight souls were sweetly saved and many gloriously filled with the Holy Spirit. The sisters who were timid at first became such good friends and did so much to show me their love. The last day we all met from both the American and Mexican sides of the river for a baptismal service. As faithful ones from Mexico and from Texas followed the Lord, songs and praises to our God resounded. Mr. Ball baptized the believers from both sides of the river. "He giveth more grace" (James 4:6 and it is sufficient!)
