Considering acceleration for your child? Asking the right questions can help you better understand the opportunities and supports available at your school.

Some questions to start the conversation:

🔹 How is a student's readiness evaluated?
🔹 Who is involved in acceleration decisions?
🔹 How are families informed throughout the process?
🔹 What supports are available for academic and social-emotional success?
🔹 How is student progress monitored after acceleration begins?

Every school approaches acceleration differently. Taking time to learn about your school's policies and practices can help you advocate for the learning environment that best meets your child's needs.

InterGifted🫶🏻Many gifted parents carry unresolved deflation, inflation, confusion or conflict around their own giftedness.

Perhaps you've been minimizing your capacities to avoid standing out - maybe through masking your intelligence or disconnecting from and apologizing for your sensitivities. Or you might have been overidentified with your high intelligence, defining yourself almost exclusively through your achievements and productivity.

It's a big job to develop a healthy relationship with *your own* uniqueness while nurturing your child's capacity to develop a healthy relationship to *their own* uniqueness.

It means being radically honest with yourself, practicing fierce acceptance, being willing to be different and authentic, valuing your quirks, meeting your unique gifted needs, not over- or under-identifying with your mind, and humbly accepting and creatively navigating an unconventional life path.

Developing these capacities allows your gifted child to have at least one (and we'd argue, probably the most important!) healthy gifted role model in their life. With you, they can ground their gifted uniqueness into relational health. They can understand that their giftedness is an essential part of their whole life, that it will change their trajectory, and that it's safe for them to embrace and share their signature self with you, with others and with the larger world they will grow into as they develop throughout life.
