The Northwest Ohio Center for Excellence in STEM Education aims to advance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for people of all ages. Our purpose is to work with community partners to (a) generate new knowledge about the science of teaching and learning, (b) apply this knowledge by developing the expertise of K-12 educators and higher education faculty, (c) increase

public support for, and understanding of, the STEM subject areas, and (d) stimulate the interest of young people, especially those in underrepresented groups, in these rewarding fields of study and career opportunities.

đŸŒ± Big Questions! Young Scientists! REAL Research! 🔬✹

This SRS Week was EPIC!

The 2026 Project PRAIRIE & GLOBE Student Research Symposium at the Toledo Zoo is in the books!

More than 15 schools and hundreds of student citizen scientists from across Northwest Ohio came together to share authentic, inquiry-based environmental research projects focused on prairies, biodiversity, weather, water quality, soil science, conservation, and citizen science!

Students confidently presented their findings to approximately 35 Expert Reviewers and engaged in meaningful scientific discussions that highlighted their curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and passion for protecting our environment.

From studying pollinators, monarch butterflies, and prairie ecosystems to investigating soil chemistry, water quality, urban heat islands, and climate observations, these young scientists demonstrated the power of hands-on STEM learning and community partnerships.

A HUGE THANK YOU to our incredible teachers, school partners, expert reviewers, volunteers, and sponsoring/supporting organizations who made this experience possible!

A GRAND PARTNERSHIP!!!
Cenovus, The Toledo Zoo Project PRAIRIE, The University of Toledo's GLOBE Mission EARTH, Xcite Learning, YLACES, and the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) , Bowling Green State University

The future of STEM and environmental stewardship is bright!

DID YOU SEE these Lifelong Learners at Bowling Green State University Today??

Our community is so fortunate to have TEACHERS who continue to LEARN in order to give the best experiences to their STUDENTS!

Our STEM Education team was proud to support the BioPathways Workshop for Educators in partnership with EducationProjects.org and the Ohio Life Sciences Association in the BGSU College of Engineering and Innovation Co-ops amazing new digs!

Educators from across NW Ohio engaged in hands-on life sciences learning, explored career-connected STEM opportunities, and collaborated around innovative classroom experiences that help prepare students for Ohio’s growing biotech and life sciences industries.

We were especially grateful to have our fantastic community partners from Nature's Nursery and Imagination Station Toledo join us to help inspire and engage participating educators.

Here's to more STEM Education connections and partners around our great Buckeye State!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience possible!

The Battelle Teacher Academy is a year‑long cohort open to all teachers in the state of Ohio and Michigan. The $2,000 cost of participation is fully covered through a generous grant from the Maritime Industrial Base Program.

Through industry and manufacturing partnerships, teachers will:
‱ Explore STEM culture within their classrooms and schools ‱ Incorporate design thinking through the manufacturing cycle ‱ Create authentic problem‑based learning (PBL) experiences for their students ‱ Engage with industry partners to bring real‑world learning to life.

Bring STEM workforce skills and competencies to your students with the Teacher Academy.

Our Team was honored to participate in the First Ever Washington Local Schools Student Research Symposium held at Washington Junior High School! We enjoyed serving as Expert Reviewers and hearing the 7th- grade students present their research! They crushed it! We were blown away by their growth this year in their Citizen Science work! We can't wait to see them SHINE at The Toledo Zoo Student Research Symposium where 15 other schools will also be participating! AMAZING JOB! And a huge shoutout to their teacher, Mr. Jacobs who spent A LOT of time working with the students, prepping them, and organizing the day!
