Creating calm, connection, and confidence
Our 2–3 year olds have been exploring scarves as a calming resource before sleep time. Through gentle movement, music, and sensory play, children are supported to slow their bodies and transition peacefully into rest time.
This experience links closely with the ENGAGE programme we have begun as a team, by supporting the development of early self-regulation skills as tamariki learn to recognise emotions, manage excitement, and feel safe within predictable routines.
Inspired by Montessori principles, we aim to create calm and responsive environments where children can independently explore simple strategies to support their wellbeing. The soft scarves encourage body awareness, focus, coordination, and emotional regulation through child-led exploration and play.
It has been beautiful to watch our tamariki use the scarves to calm their bodies, build trust in routines, and develop a growing sense of independence and belonging.
