As UP Cebu commences Academic Year 2026–2027, all classes shall adopt an asynchronous mode of learning from August 10 to 14, pursuant to Memo. No. CLM 2026-042. This arrangement is in support of Freshies' Orientation Week and the General Orientation/Re-Orientation of all personnel.

Incoming students and their parents are also encouraged to take note of the following orientation schedules, all of which will be held at the Performing Arts Hall (PAH):

We are pleased to invite you to “Balúd sang Doróg” (Waves of Inequalities), the tenurial lecture and book talk of Dr. Noe John Sacramento, Associate Professor of Public Policy and Politics, on August 14, 2026, at 3:00 PM at AVR 1, UP Cebu, or online via Zoom.

Across Asia, widening inequalities continue to shape how public problems are understood, whose voices are heard, and which policy alternatives become possible. Drawing from his new book (co-authored by Dr. Piyapong Boossabong and Dr. Pobsook Chamchong), “Policy Analysis in High Inequalities in Asia: Critical and Pragmatic Perspectives,” Dr. Sacramento will talk on how policy analysis can move beyond technical problem-solving to critically engage with questions of power, exclusion, and democratic participation.

Bringing critical and pragmatic perspectives and experiences, the talk highlights on complex realities in a highly unequal societies - reflecting on his academic and scholarly journey within and beyond the critical and interpretive policy studies community.

The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring distinguished scholars Prof. Dr. Weena Gera (University of the Philippines Cebu), Prof. Dr. Nick Turnbull (The University of Manchester), and Asst. Prof. Antonio Salazar Jr. (University of the Philippines Tacloban), who will share their thoughts and reflections on the lecture.

The UP Cebu Political Science & Public Affairs, together with the Yuchengco Center at the De La Salle University, is hosting a public symposium featuring Professor Emeritus Paul D. Hutchcroft of the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, Australian National University, a leading scholar on Philippine and Southeast Asian Politics, entitled “Southeast Asia’s Diverse Political Terrains: Challenges of Democracy and Development through the Prism of Time.”

The symposium will take place at the Performing Arts Hall (PAH), UP Cebu, on July 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
