Check my pinned comment below for more about my experience with this exercise this morning, but first 👇

This exercise can be like a massage for your vocal tract.
It helps you focus on your breath support and air flow consistency.
You can vary the intensity and difficulty depending on how far below the surface the end of the straw is placed.

Yep, it's my go-to!

Have questions about:
* re-setting your voice as you recover from illness?
* effective warm-up routines before heading into a singing sesh?

Drop them in the comments.

Not a sponsored post (but happy to be! 😉)

Earlier this week I posted a reel about steaming for your vocal health. Today's tip is for when you're sleeping (or even working around in the room).

We know how much our voice loves the steamy environment of the shower. Well, this gives the steam but without the running water.

When we're sick we can find our airways drying out. This is particularly true when our nose is blocked and we find ourselves needing to breathe through our mouth.

It's also helpful in the colder months when the air is dry.

A humidifier keeps the air moist and warm - and our vocal tract loves that.

Just make sure to use it according to manufacturer's instructions!!
This is especially important when it comes to cleaning it! A dirty unit means we could be breathing in contaminated air.

You may find it necessary to crack your windows a little to reduce condensation building in your room. We certainly don't want a mould problem developing!!

I've been soo sick the past few days!
Terribly sore throat and blocked nose amongst fevers and aches. Hopefully rounding the corner on that now.

If you've a sore throat or stuffy nose this can help.

1. Boil water.
2. Place it in a plastic bowl - fill bowl to about ⅓ to ½ way. (I'd prefer glass or stainless steel, admittedly, but as they get hot to the touchz plastic suited my set-up better on this occasion.
3. Sit in a comfy place. (⚠️Sitting at the table is safest!)
4. Place face near bowl. Cover head and bowl with a towel.
5. ⚠️ CLOSE your eyes! Especially important if the water is super hot!!
6. Breathe in the steam.
7. Do this about twice a day.

I have another tip for what to do overnight when breathing is hard while sleeping.

You may want to increase the cycle of the chords in each cycle to complete a melody.

This task in this exercise is not necessarily to come up with a lyric but to explore the melodic voicing the chords lead you to.

After recording this clip, I realised these chord progression reminded me of a popular song. Bonus points if you can tell me which one I might be thinking of.

Does this hit home for you?
Give this post a LIKE if so. 👍 💛

I've had so many women in their middle and later years ask if it's worth them learning to sing!

"Yes! Of course!" is my reply.

At some point, many of these women end up in tears in one of their lessons as they come to realise how negative messages they've received over the years have impacted how they feel about their voice - the sound of it, the use of it, the expression of it - and we start to unlock those messages and move towards healthier and happier ones.

Some find issues with their breath, mental heath and their self-esteem...but then...

As one lady said to me: "I'm getting so much more out of these lessons than just learning to sing."

Comments like these makes me smile and warms my heart.
I celebrate with them.
I celebrate them.

You don't have to have aspirations to be on stage in order to learn to sing. The joy of learning to use and appreciate your voice is a worthy enough goal.

If that's something you'd like to explore further, comment VOICE or shoot me a DM & let's chat.
