Hi folks! We're just getting ready for this fall's "Writing Spec-Fic Humor" workshop, the fifth in a series of 8-week "Science into Fiction" workshops where we brainstorm, develop, write, and critique new stories. We also meet (virtually) once a week to discuss readings and other materials related to the topic.

Starts October 22 and runs through December 14. We'll have special guest speakers on the subject, as well! Hope to see some of you then.

2012 Hugo Award Trophy 05/10/2024

The broken-Hugo saga continues: the original artist no longer works in glass, but she may send me her templates, which would help a lot. The stained-glass and fine-art glass people in my area have all said no or work in mosaic or another glass form. So I still need a suggestion for someone who can do this sort of 3D stained glass work. If I can't find someone, I'll have to screw the rocket into a tree stump or something, since it isn't freestanding.

2012 Hugo Award Trophy 04/10/2024

Back in 2012, I won the Hugo, which has an elaborate and very fragile stained-glass-and-solder base, and of course the glass broke. I need someone who can cobble together something for me, because it's heartbreaking to have it in pieces in a box. This is what it looked like, once upon a time:

Our newest story-development workshop, "Six great stories & what makes them work: The science of SF writing," begins soon, and there's still room to join!

Like our prior Science into Fiction workshops, it'll be live online, with weekly discussions about the craft, opens with a story-development workshop weekend, and wraps up with a critique weekend. We'll all write a new story in about six weeks!

Chris McKitterick leads, and special guest instructor is experimental particle physicist and SF expert Phil Baringer.

Dreamland Quickstart 15/08/2024

I am really delighted that my involvement with this project has just been announced! I am one of the writers for Jason Thompson's brilliant Dreamland.

Dreamland Quickstart A Roleplaying Game of Magical Words In a fairytale, people talk like a fairytale. One of the most vivid elements of Dunsany and Lovecraft’s Dreamland fantasies is flowery, ornate language which creates the feeling of a fairytale or myth. The core game mechanic is centered around 300 Word Cards ins...
