I walked away from teaching two years ago, but it sounds a lot easier than it was.

Almost three years ago, the Maui wildfires took our home and most of our beloved town of Lahaina. 🌺

We stayed as a family trying to live our old life, but we knew we couldn't go back.

So I walked away from teaching in Hawaii after 16 years. We packed up what we had and made whereever we were pur new classroom and home.

Our home found a new definition, more than we could have ever imagine. ✨️

I spent 16 years as a middle school science teacher trying to bring the world into my classroom. Elements on worksheets. Laws of physics on projector slides. Space using notebooks. 📚

Then the Lahaina wildfire took our home — and everything changed.

This past year we've been worldschooling our daughter through and I have watched her learn things I could never have taught her inside four walls.

She glides through laws of motion with joy. She tries to learn every language. She's standing inside the history of Space Exploration I used to show on a screen. 🚀👨‍🚀

I thought I knew what good education looked like. She's showing me something better. 🌍🤍

You've got skills!! 😎🤣

Almost three year ago, the Lahaina wildfire burned down the home we'd lived in for 12 years. 🌺

We didn't know what came next. So we chose everywhere.

This past school year we've been slow traveling the world with our daughter through — spending months in each place, learning the language, the food, the culture. Not as tourists. As locals.

She's learning more than we ever imagined. And honestly? So are we. 🌍

This is our year in places. 👇 Drop a ❤️ if you want to see more of our story.

Have you ever thought of worldschooling in Uruguay!? 🇺🇾

Our family of 3 spent three months living and Worldschooling in this beautiful, amazing country.

Worldschooling through Boundless Life offers biweekly field trips, which parents are welcome to join! 💖

Field trips were a once-a-year opportunity at our last school, so we were excited to be part of this great, worldschooling community. This is one of the reasons why we chose Boundless for our family. 🏫🎒

As a former teacher, I am so glad we have these opportunities to with our daughter.

A 5 year diary or a "Fake it till you Make it" journal? 🤔

If I had the five year journal, what a cool gift to give my daughter one day.

The other sounds like me right now and I'm ok with that. 👌 😌

I'm in the market for a journal that will let me get all my creative ideas out. 💡 If you have any recommendations, I'll take them! ✍️

🚶‍♀️Walking down Front street back on Maui was how we spent our time.

After the town burnt down, that way of life was gone. 💔

🌎 Now we spend our days walking around and taking in the town we choose to slow travel.

Will we ever find our new, "Lahaina town?" Probably not, but as long as we're together and doing what we love, it's not far behind. 🌺

Went on my daughter's field trip and then to an arcade after school. What was I thinking? 🤔

Luckily, my husband got to have some fun too. ▶️ 🕹
