Wichita Sigma Psi Zeta

No plans this weekend? Sigma Psi Zeta is back with our homemade snacks, treats, and drinks at the 41st annual Wichita Asian Festival this Saturday! Come out and try our yummy foods and drinks at the Sigma Stop, you won’t regret it! ✨🌹

The event is this Saturday, October 15th from 5-9:30pm Downtown Century II. Admission is $5 or free for ages 10 and under.

Attendees can enjoy a variety of cultural and artistic events from many different Asian countries, including diverse stage performances highlighting various aspects of Asian culture. Keep an eye for SYZters that might be performing… 👀 Not only that, there will be a pagaent with contestants vying for the title of Miss Wichita Asian Festival 2022!

There will be plenty of vendor booths from many local businesses, organizations and community church groups selling cultural foods, arts and crafts, clothing and more! Don’t miss this out.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month! Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. is hosting a drive for ICT SOS from October 10th to October 26th!! ✨

What is ICT SOS?
ICT SOS is a Wichita-based organization that’s mission is to end human trafficking through prevention and awareness education; advocacy for survivors; and acting as a bridge between direct service professionals and community members who desire to help.

As a community, one of the simplest things we can do is to organize and provide those
resources so that they are on hand and easily accessible in a moment of crisis. Refer to the link below for items that can be donated! Items do have to be NEW as survivors deserve a fresh new start. Donations can be dropped off at the SEAL Office (Rhatigan Student Center - room 216) in the box labeled “Sigma Psi Zeta”.

As you are helping Sigma Psi Zeta contribute to our philanthropy of combating the violence against womxn, we would like to offer the same to you. We will be donating $100 to the philanthropy or chosen charity of the organization that donates the most to our drive! ♥️💛

Today is World Mental Health Day! On October 10th, we globally commit to raising awareness of mental health issues worldwide and mobilize efforts to support mental health. This is organized by the World Federation for Mental Health and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) 🌎🌻

Why Sigmas?
“I chose Sigmas because I saw myself joining them. I saw the members of the organization and connected with them, and it made me think “I want to be with them.” They made me feel welcome, and have now given me a support system. I also don’t have sisters, so this is great haha”

What are your favorite hobbies?
“My hobbies include journaling and shopping!”

Any advice for PNM (potential new members) who might be interested in joining?
“My advice to PNM is to just be honest and ask questions! We’re talking about eternal syzterhood, and understandably so, if you want to know every detail that you can, then ask! we’re all here to help your journey, whether that be towards sigmas or not :)”

Why Sigmas?
“I chose Sigmas because of their emphasis on philanthropy and their embracement of diversity and culture. I never saw myself in a sorority, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made. From professional development, and confidence in voicing my opinions, to a great support system. I felt right at home and would not have wanted it any other way!”

What are your favorite hobbies?
“Traveling, shopping, dancing, attending concerts and festivals, and trying out new food places with SYZters!”

Any advice for PNM (potential new members) who might be interested in joining?
“My advice would be to just come out even if you are hesitant because the events are non-binding! When I was going through recruitment, I had no intentions of joining a sorority, but meeting SYZters and actually getting to know them, I realized that it was definitely for me. It was very scary at first, but everyone made me felt welcomed and included. Your Sigma experience is what you make it! It is a good amount of work, but it is up to you to make it worthwhile during your college career!”

Why Sigmas?
“I chose Sigmas because Sigmas has SO MUCH to offer. Whether it’s connections, memories, professional development, community awareness, there’s endless opportunities within the organization. I definitely wasn’t the type to see myself in a sorority when I started college, but after joining I was exposed to many different aspects of what Sigma is and what it can give me. I have gained so much experience in my time in SYZ and I wouldn’t have imagined to be where I am today, especially here overseeing the organization.”

What’s unique about Sigmas & MGC?
“Sigmas/MGC helped me find people that share the same cultural background and experiences that I have and made me feel at home.”

What are your favorite hobbies?
“Playing with my cat, Mango, binge watching k-drama’s, smelling Kelley’s farts and going to festivals!”

Any advice for PNM (potential new members) who might be interested in joining?
“Be true to who you are, Sigma has no mold. Don’t be nervous when coming out to our recruitment events! 9/10 times, we’re the ones that are nervous 😬 We want to get to know you!
& most importantly, you get out what you put in. Sigma definitely is work, but in the end it is so worth to see what you can and will accomplish.”

SYZters showing off their culture ray! We attended VSA’s annual Lunar Bash and celebrated the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival! It was filled with fun Vietnamese tradional games, lantern making, and a moon pie eating contest. Thank you VSA for planning such a fun event! ☾✨
