⚠️ Large and very large avalanches expected: caution is not optional

With significant snowfall and unstable snowpack, large avalanches are expected, according to Météo-France. Today, we're talking about avalanches of size 3/5 and 4/5… but do you really know what these numbers mean?

🔴 Size 3: destruction of vehicles, small structures, movement on gentle slopes (slope well below 30°).

🔴 Size 4: destruction of buildings and heavy goods vehicles, devastation of forests, reaching the valley floor, movement on gentle slopes (slope well below 30°).

These avalanches go far beyond the realm of "individual risk." They also impact rescue services, roads, and infrastructure. This isn't a movie. This isn't an exaggeration. This is the current reality. A size 3 or 4 avalanche won't stop just because you're experienced or properly equipped. It comes down. It hits. It buries. Météo-France's weather reports are clear. Stay informed and follow the instructions and recommendations.

Please share…..it’s so important that change happens.

🇬🇧
Hi everyone,

As we head into one of the busiest weeks of the season we’d like to reintroduce ourselves and our campaign.

We are Louise and Amie, two mums living in the Portes du Soleil who care deeply about on piste safety.

Amie is the founder of Morzine Source magazine and Louise is a physiotherapist working closely with injured skiers and snowboarders each season. Together, we’ve seen first-hand the impact that preventable accidents can have on families, visitors and the wider community.

In 2022, a five year old girl was tragically hit and killed while skiing in the nearby resort of Flaine. Like many people, we were deeply affected by this tragedy and decided that we wanted to act to try and change behaviour on the slopes.

Within two weeks of making this decision, we proudly launched the Piste x Code (piste cross code), a safety campaign dedicated to promoting awareness, responsibility and respect on the slopes.

Our short term goal has been to increase awareness of the rules of the piste. Shockingly, we discovered that even people living in ski resorts were not aware of the FIS code of conduct.

Our longer term goal is to have clear consequences and sanctions for those that are behaving recklessly or out of control. However, to do this we need your help. We need to increase our following so that we have have a significant number of people behind us to campaign for changes to be made.

One of the biggest criticisms that we receive is that we are ‘preaching to the converted’. And whilst there maybe some truth to this, with more community engagement we can help educate more and more people about piste safety. So many accidents are completely avoidable. Too many people have already been affected by collisions. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, safety is a shared responsibility.

We have many free resources and blogs on our website, suitable for all ages. We have an on-going drive to educate children, so that the next generation are more safety aware on the pistes. However, all ages need to be more aware.

Skiing and snowboarding bring excitement and freedom — but safety must always come first. Please invite your friends, family and clients to follow us.

Its over and out for me this winter. I cannot teach as I’m injured and been told no sport for 3 months. Sadly, I will not be taking any more bookings.

Last week, during a lesson I was skiing slowly on a blue run with my client when a snowboarder slammed into me at speed sending me up and over the top of him. I lost consciousness and was sledded off the mountain. I have 3 fractured lumbar and am in a lot of pain. Ten days in I cannot sleep or sit easily. It’s the most painful injury I have ever had and it wasn’t my fault. The snowboarder gets to continue with his holiday. I was wearing a helmet and backpack with a built in back protector but it wasn’t enough.

This is not the first time, last winter a father let go of his child on the beginners slope, the child could not turn so took me and my client out and broke my wrist.

I am ranting because of course I’m angry, upset and hurt. Enough’s enough, take responsibility for yourself and your children, reduce their speed and yours, allow space when overtaking, if you clip someone’s skis you are too close! Priority is always to those skiing below you. RESPECT others and if you do cause an accident, STOP and leave your details.

The pistes have become a lawless motorway, it seems there is no joy in the turn but a need to get the fastest speed on your Strava, race your mates and straight line everything.

Skiing and snowboarding cannot continue like this.

What better way to spend the afternoon than running a women’s off- piste clinic especially when there’s been a fresh dump of snow overnight. Perfect 👌 😎

Blue skies + a huge dump of snow + high winds over the last few days = ⚠️ Avalanches. Recent victims just today in the Tarentaise. Let’s be cautious out there, however appealing it may seem.

Always one of my favourite weeks of the season working with these girls and the magic that is .

Gathering 24 women to ski and enjoy the mountains together is a great way to kick off the winter. Lots of laughs, lots of learning, plenty of persistence and a big dose of positivity make for a really special week.
Thankyou 🙏

How to Get in Shape for Ski Season in 7 Moves 12/11/2025

Are you really ready to ski this Winter?

Do you want to prevent injury?

Often its physical weaknesses and form that prevent you from skiing at your best.

I found this great short video that I think will really help to get in shape for skiing. It's worthwhile being prepared and not just turning up for a weeks holiday or a full season without any preparation. Afterall skiing is a sport and an energetic one at that, that requires balance, agility, strength and cardio fitness.

Let me know in the comments if you found this helpful and I may post some more to keep you all motivated ;)

There's still time to be prepared!
