ACCRA WORLD BOOK CAPITAL 2023 - MOBILE LIBRARY SERVICE TO COMMUNITIES Today, the Mobile Library Service Team in the Greater Accra Region visited James Town to engage children in the community in reading activities. This is in connection with the Accra World Book Capital 2023 mobile library service to communities to mark Founders' Day celebration in Ghana. Career Development Seminar at Teshie PRESEC

The Accra Central Library Youth Engagement Centre has organized a Career Development Seminar for final year students of the Presbyterian Senior High School, Teshie. The students were introduced to various career choices and the purpose of the Youth Engagement Centre Project. The resource person for the seminar was Mr. Edward Addo-Yobo, the Regional Head of the Ghana Library Authority

Teshie-Nungua Estates Library Commissioned

The Teshie-Nungua Estates Library has been commissioned and handed over to the Ghana Library Authority to manage.

The library was commissioned by Hon. Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, Chief Executive of the National Health Authority, former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency and former Deputy Minister for Health.

The library project was initiated by Hon. Dr. Okoe Boye with support from Coastal Development Authority and the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly.

Present at the ceremony were the Chief Executive of Coastal Development Authority, the Chief Executive of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, the Greater Accra Regional Director of Ghana Library Authority, the Co-ordinating Director of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Director of Education, Assembly Members and opinion leaders in the community.

The Teshie-Nungua Estates Library becomes the twelfth functional library under the management of the Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the Ghana Library Authority and the second in the Ledzokuku Municipality.

BISHOP GIRLS SCHOOL WINS INTER-SCHOOL SCRABBLE COMPETITION

The Maiden edition of the Inter-School Scrabble Competition has ended at the Accra Central Library with Bishop Girls School emerging as winners.

10 schools participated in the competition. The schools are: Bishop Girls, Independence Avenue ‘1’, Independence Avenue ‘2’, 28th February/Private Odartey Memorial, Bishop Mixed, Happy Days Academy, Apostolic Church Academy, John Wesley Methodist, Queen Elizabeth II Foundation and Gamashie High Street SDA

An award ceremony was organized immediately after the competition. The Contestants received certificates of participation, dictionaries and other reading materials. The winners received a trophy.
Present at the award ceremony were: Mr. Edward Addo-Yobo(Greater Accra Regional Librarian), Mr. Richard Obeng Asante( Head of the Accra Central Children’s Library) Madam Fulera Abayaa Pegyin (CEO of Eden Hobby and Curvy Essentials), Ms. Dora Allotey (Patron of the Scrabble Competition) and representative of the Accra Metro Director of Ghana Education Service.

The Competition was held in collaboration with the Accra Metro Directorate of the Ghana Education Service with support from the EPP Books Services.
Special thanks to EPP Books Services and Eden Hobby and Curvy Essentials for their diverse support and encouragement throughout the competition.

Corporate bodies are invited to partner the Accra Central Library in organizing the second edition of the competition in 2023 to improve literacy and numeracy skills of Learners.

GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL DIRECTOR AT UNIIQ FM AND RADIO UNIVERSE

The Greater Accra Regional Director (Ag), Mr. Edward Addo-Yobo, has visited the studios of Uniiq FM and Radio Universe to talk about the Entrepreneurship training programme dubbed 'Entrepreneurship Re-Imagined'.

The training caravan will be at the following Youth Engagement Centres:

Accra Central Library Youth Engagement Centre(near the Supreme Court)- 5th & 6th September 2022 @ 8a.m each day.

Tema Library Youth Engagement Centre(near the Tema SHS) - 7th & 8th September 2022 @ 8a.m each day.
