Today is Transgender Day of Visibility 🏳️⚧️
The School of Culture, Media, and Society stands in support and invites you to learn from local advocate Brittany Spratt by taking a moment to recognize the significance of this day.
Originally founded in 2009, Transgender Day of Visibility (TDoV) was created to celebrate trans lives and increase awareness—offering a counterpoint to Transgender Day of Remembrance, which honours those lost to violence.
But this year, visibility feels complicated.
Across the world—and closer to home—trans communities are facing a growing wave of policies, legislation, and actions that challenge their rights, safety, and dignity. From restrictions on identity recognition to censorship in schools, the impact is real and ongoing.
For many, today is not just about celebration—it’s about reflection, solidarity, and asking: what comes next?
We invite you to take time today to:
• Listen to trans voices
• Learn about the issues impacting the community
• Stand in support and allyship
Visibility matters—but so does action.
