Who doesn't love a CRUNCH with thier lunch?? 🥒🥒🥒🥒🥒
This past Sunday, we had a pickling workshop with our friend Dylan, who showed us the delicious basics!
When we decided to put this workshop on, we asked ourselves what is it about pickles that is so Jewish? I started to do some research. Besides the obvious, that a nomadic people of ancient times had to be clever about keeping produce handy and making it last, why has the pickle held us so tightly?
In my readings I came upon a story about two Rabbis arguing about whether to salt brine a pickle or to use vinegar if one were pickling on Shabbat. The argument being centered around which method constitutes "work." That struck me immediately! What makes pickles so Jewish is our ability to argue about them! Debate and questioning is at the center of Judaism!
Whether it's spicy, sweet, or crunchy kosher dill, there is room for all kinds of pickles! Just like us, we can all hold our differences and we can debate about them. We can hold them all in equal value, as different as they are.

Our families assembled winter care packages and wrote cards for the houseless in our community. Each family took a few with them to hand out during the cold Chicago months ahead.

Chicago isn’t just a place where we live—this year, it’s also the lens through which we’ll explore some of the most vital and important issues concerning Jewish values, culture, and identity.
Our educational (and sometimes literal!) tours of living spaces and neighborhoods will give our students an experiential look at the places Chicagoans have called home for the past hundred years.
Join us at the Chicago Workers Circle Shule for a year-long journey through time, space, and justice.
Come check us out for a free shule session by emailing [email protected] or REGISTER TODAY HERE:
