Hi all:
A family in Napa has a dog who's just come out of surgery and they need someone there to care for the dog. I do not know the family, only their assistant. Rate will be very competitive, will include travel expense, and i believe the need is for a couple of weeks. I do not have further details but if one of our past grads is interested, that would be great and you can reach out to me via email, [email protected] and I’ll make the connection. Thx!!!!
Ps. Super excited our next DTIA academy starts August 2nd!

As a mixed race person I am very aware of the glaring lack of racial diversity in the field of dog training. We don’t see enough BIPOC representation in our field and as such dog training as a career may not seem like an option, because if we can’t see it, we can’t be it. Finance can act as a barrier to entry – I was only able to attend a well known dog training school many years ago because the shelter where I worked paid my tuition. DTIA is now offering a scholarship for BIPOC students, and accepting applications for that scholarship for the Fall 2020 cohort:

The dog training field needs to do A LOT more as regards visibility, encouraging diversity and opportunities for BIPOC trainers - "if you can't see it, you can't be it":
How to Support your BIPOC Dog Training and Dog Sport Friends I am often the only person of colour at a dog show, or trial. Have you ever wondered what that’s like? There has been some conflict recently in a dog training community that I consider myself…

Great quote from Mary Hunter about starting points when training:
Here's a quote from yesterday's blog post, which was about "Starting off on the right emotion." I thought it was meme worthy. If you agree, give it a like or a share. :)
And, if you missed yesterday's blog post, you can find it on Stale Cheerios.
Not to be missed! Dr. Susan Friedman discussing control starting tomorrow on NEI’s TEC-talks!
