DAY 2 was so much fun! We started out with a very helpful college readiness talk with Mr. Terry Porter; he encouraged campers to think about their “north star” to guide them through the application process ⭐️. The rest of the morning was spent in the cadaver lab (arguably the coolest part of camp 😁) where campers got hands-on experiences to learn about the human anatomy🫀🧠🫁. We started the afternoon with a super inspiring panel, showcasing the different routes taken to work in the medical field. To wrap up the day, campers competed in “speed interviews” where they got a short amount of time to ask professionals questions, remembering as much as they could and completing a short quiz at the end of the day (for team points🙃). Camp is halfway done, but we are just getting started! 💚🩺🥼

We decided we weren’t quite done with team pics… so here you’ll find some of the fun we had while in between stations! Our next team leader for camp this summer is OMS-II Taylor Leone.

Taylor graduated from Emory University for undergrad where she majored in Biology.

She is interested in PM&R, surgery, neurology, and a few others!

Her current summer research is in pain and neuroimaging, and she has done a lot of prior research in neurophysiology, walking mechanics, and stroke rehabilitation.

In her free time Taylor likes to read and exercise, but she particularly enjoys free-diving and scuba diving! 

A fun fact about Taylor is that she was a collegiate swimmer.

Our next team leader for camp this summer is OMS-II Aleyah Kovack.

Aleyah went to Otterbein University for undergrad where she was a part of the EAP program and majored in biochemistry and molecular biology.

She is currently most interested in OB/GYN because of her passion for women’s health and advocacy, but she is still open to anything.

Over the summer, she is exploring her specialty interests through lots of shadowing and doing lots of traveling!

When she is not doing medicine, Aleyah likes to draw, play video games, hang out with her favorite people, and explore Columbus.

A fun fact about Aleyah is that she played in a band in college!

Our next team leader for camp this summer is OMS-II Emily Keck.

Emily graduated from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry.

She is keeping her options open and has a few specialty interests, but her top two currently are anesthesiology and sports medicine.

Emily is spending her summer doing research at Nationwide in allergy and immunology (which she is also interested in).

Outside of medical school, Emily enjoys going to the gym / playing pickleball / volleyball, listening to live music, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends!

Our next team leader for camp this summer is OMS-II Luke Atkins.

Luke graduated from Capital University with a degree in biology.

He is interested in emergency medicine.

Over the summer, Luke is working as a PSA in the ER at Grant Medical Center and going on the medical mission trip in the Dominican Republic.

Outside of medical school, Luke likes to run, play his trumpet, cook food on his blackstone, and hike.

One fun fact about Luke is that he was in the Ohio state marching band for 6 years and has a national championship ring!

Now it’s time to continue introducing our team leaders for camp! Next up is OMS-II Esthela Artiga.

Esthela graduated from The Ohio State University with a MS in Anatomy and a BA in Biochemistry.

She is currently interested in interventional cardiology and hematology/oncology.

Before medical school, Esthela completed three years of cardiophysiology research focused on atrial fibrillation and heart failure, as well as four years of acute myeloid leukemia research.

Outside of medical school, Esthela enjoys staying active through running and cycling, as well as spending time cooking and gardening.

A fun fact about Esthela is that she was born in Los Angeles, raised in El Salvador, and is currently planning her wedding in El Salvador with her fiancé while in medical school.
