WCA's basic aims are:
to teach through a variety of different music styles, the techniques of voice production, and
to cover basic music theory to allow an understanding and reading of a choral music score, and
above all to promote the joy of singing. The Academy, now entering its fourth year, remains in vibrant health. The Choir's Director of Music, Jo McNally who specialises in developing new c
hoirs, leads us and Andrew McKenna , a hugely talented professional musician, accompanies us on the piano. Jo has extensive experience across many choirs and types of music, and Andrew ... well he just makes us sound great! We rehearse, during school term time, on Thursday evenings at Emmbrook Junior School, Wokingham. Under Jo's endless enthusiasm and confidence, we have sung a bit of everything from The Beatles, Rogers & Hammerstein, and Sondheim to folk songs from around the world, madrigals, some of the choral classics and of course Christmas Carols. Although run as an independent choir, the Academy works closely with the Wokingham Choral Society who helped found the choir in 2010. We are developing an increasing social agenda and look forward to welcoming new members whether beginners or those wanting to improve existing skills. We think you will enjoy the joy of just singing and the pleasure in discovering new music and new friends.
