🚨 Attention highly trained female middle-distance runners! 🚨🏃‍♀️

If you can you run 1500m in under 5:30, join us in advancing research on female performance! We’re exploring how the menstrual cycle impacts perceptual and physiological responses during middle-distance running.

Be part of this exciting study and help us better understand the unique factors influencing female athletes 💪✨

📗💡Check out our Study Spotlight on OPRL Research Assoc. Dr. Jake Hudgins’ recently published paper!

He and his co-authors at .khp examined the popular wearable running power meter Stryd. They sought to determine if the wearable device would reflect the changes in metabolic power (e.g. running economy) when switching between training shoes and racing shoes as competitive runners often do.

Swipe through to learn about the study and understand the applications for running with a running power meter!

Curious about how critical power changes with fatigue? 🤔

Check out our December Journal Club feature! This study offers insights into how the power-duration relationship is affected by different durations of heavy exercise and how consuming carbohydrates may help mitigate performance impairments.

💡⚡️Another great conference this week!

OPRL’s Dr. Wilkins and Dr. Hudgins attended LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center Scientific Symposium on the “Optimization of Health, Performance & Resilience: Courtside, Warside, Spaceside”.

Dr. Wilkins presented on the “Application of Fatigue Progression Models for Tactical Athletes”, sharing some insight from previous work and our lab’s current research into modeling the progression of fatigue during high intensity exercise.

It was a great opportunity to meet and learn from some of the human performance field’s top scientists and researchers. Thanks for having us and !!

Check out OPRL’s November Journal Club feature! 📖💡

This month, we’re diving into critical power and maximum metabolic steady state—a key topic as we tackle our own research in this area. Thoughtful discussions like these help us connect the dots between science and application, and we want to share it with you!
