Pilates isn’t resistance training…and it’s not supposed to be!
Different stimulus. Different purpose.
Pilates builds body control. Strength training builds your ability to handle load. Pilates is done on completely different equipment and a very different environment at a slower pace.
If you love Pilates-Do both. I do 👌🏻💪🏻
But REAL Pilates isn’t a dance class either with endless pulsing and choreography that doesn’t make sense- you have to have a purpose behind what you’re doing…slow it down, control it, feel it.

When you do isometric repetitions before you add on reps, you have a greater ability to connect to the muscle before getting into intensity - here is a good example. You can do a hip thrust exercise loaded appropriately for your experience and level and with weight that is not too demanding but provides the opportunity for intensity. You can then perform max reps after your two or three isometric holds!
This is a great opportunity for you to get the amount of effort necessary out of those last reps without putting yourself under too much load!!
My clients absolutely dislike this, but they do it anyway because they know the value of why they’re doing it 😆 and no they do t call it “fun”!

💕 I love practicing Pilates. I also love lifting heavy weights, but they are very, very different and I love the mindfulness you can gather from your Pilates practice and put that into the training room. Now this is not a traditional crunch.
In fact, Pilates gives you many options with utilizing orientations and planes of movement that are very different!

📢🤗 So many women are scared of lifting heavier weights… I still hear this after training clients for over 15 years…literally all the time how they believe weights makes them “BULKY”.
Yet they will grind the same ‘heavy’ 15-pound dumbbells with no results…
And I tell them this: “if you never change the stimulus, of course 15 pounds will always feel heavy”
❗️Your body only adapts when you give it a reason to which involves changing your nutrition and your training.
You CAN lift heavier, but you also need to prioritize your nutrition for your workouts.
That’s how you get stronger, not by staying in the safe zone and hitting the same ceiling blaming dumbbells and not looking at the whole picture. Stop waiting and start changing.
🙌🏻 Hi, I’m Serene! Let me just say that I’ve been doing Pilates since I was 17. I’ve been teaching Pilates over 15 years however I’m also a personal trainer. I’ve been doing that for a very long time as well 15 years, and I can see the benefit of doing both!

Pilates teaches rhythm, balance, and precision —
loading your body through rotation, control, and breath.
It’s the foundation that makes strength training smarter and you can see it for yourself on your mission towards the long game!
