Today we remember Sitting Bull Tatanka Iyotake who was killed on this day 131 years ago. Today we also ask for prayers for our riders who are leaving Sitting Bulls home and starting their prayer ride to Wounded Knee.
May we remember Sitting Bull for his commitment to our people and future generations. Saving our mother is our greatest test in ensuring a livable world for the next 7 generations. “Let us put our minds together and see what life we can make for our children”

Nineteen-year-old model Quannah Chasinghorse made history when she became the first Indigenous woman to walk for Chanel this past fashion month, in addition to walking the runways of Chloé, Savage x Fenty, Gabriela Hearst, and Prabal Gurung. But bringing visibility to the Native American community in the fashion community is just one part of her mission. She’s determined to amplify their stories. “There are always Indigenous people showing up, doing the work, and I don’t think we get enough recognition,” she says. “Our voices are constantly being pushed away because people don’t take us seriously. We’ve always been a stereotype, a mascot. We’ve always been not seen as real humans. Being a part of that change and encouraging other Indigenous youth to step up and use our voices, but also to be proud of who we are, is what motivates me. It keeps me wanting to keep doing what I’m doing.” Read her full ELLE January 2022 digital cover interview here: http://ellemag.co/NJ8AzdK

MEMPHIS MINNIE (1897-1973) was a blues pioneer of the first degree, a wonderful singer, songwriter and guitarist, playing her trademark National Electric Spanish New Yorker guitar. She made about 200 records on seven different labels from the 1920's through the '50's. She recorded solo, in duos with husbands Kansas Joe McCoy and Ernest "Little Son Joe" Lawlers, and in groups. Born Lizzie Douglas in Algiers, Louisiana, she was the oldest of 13 siblings. She played on the streets of Memphis as a teenager and joined the Ringling Bros. Circus, touring the South from 1916 to 1920. Some of my favorite Memphis Minnie songs are, "Me & My Chauffeur," "I'm So Glad," "What Fault You Find of Me," and her first hit, "Bumble Bee."

BLIND WILLIE McTELL (1898-1959) and his wife, Kate, taken in 1934. McTell was from Thomson, Georgia and had a stunning and fluid approach, with a clear tenor voice, singing and playing blues, rags and gospel songs on the 12 String guitar. Starting in 1927, he made records for a half dozen labels, under the names Blind Sammie, Georgia Bill, Hot Shot Willie, Blind Willie, Barrelhouse Sammy, Pig & Whistle Red, Blind Doogie, Red Hot Willie Glaze, Red Hot Willie, and Eddie McTier, but no matter the name everybody recognized Blind Willie McTell's distinctive style. His most well known song is "Stateboro Blues." He made a pile of rags like "Georgia Rag" and "Wabash Rag," and haunting bottleneck songs such as "Cross The River of Jordan." He recorded and performed into the 50's but never lived to be "rediscovered."

Why can't government settle outstanding debts to disadvantaged citizens with land? Or is that only possible for the oligarchs ?
