Year 7 in Secondary School: R U OK?
Starting secondary school can feel like a big step.
New environment, new friends, more subjects, more pressure… it’s a lot to handle.
At Year 7, students might:
- Feel overwhelmed with homework and expectations
- Find it hard to make new friends
- Feel less confident speaking up in class
- Experience stress they don’t always talk about
Sometimes, they just need someone to ask: “Are you okay?”
How we can support them:
- Check in regularly: even a simple conversation helps
- Encourage them to share how they feel
- Remind them it’s okay to make mistakes
- Build confidence step by step
At NAN’s Tutoring, we don’t just focus on academics.
We support students’ confidence, wellbeing, and growth as they adjust to high school life.

Use the ruler for measurement questions and to help read graphs, shapes, and diagrams carefully.
2) Calculator:
For allowed numeracy questions, the calculator can help students work faster and check their answers.

In writing tasks, the dictionary helps students check spelling and choose the correct word.
- Top Tip:
Don’t ignore these tools, they are there to help you!
Students should practise using them before test day so they feel comfortable and prepared.
At NAN’s Tutoring, we help students build test skills, confidence, and smart exam strategies for NAPLAN success.

Nutrition Pyramid – A Simple Guide to Healthy Eating
Do you know how to build a healthy daily diet? The Nutrition Pyramid helps students understand how much of each food group the body needs to stay healthy and focused for study and daily activities.
- Base of the pyramid: Eat More
Grains, cereals, rice, pasta, and bread provide energy for learning and daily movement.
- Middle level: Eat Plenty
Vegetables and fruits supply vitamins, minerals, and fibre to support growth, immunity, and digestion.
- Next level: Eat in Moderation
Protein foods like meat, fish, eggs, beans, and dairy products help build muscles and repair the body.
- Top level: Eat Sparingly
Foods high in sugar, salt, and fats should be limited to maintain long-term health.
This topic is part of the SACE Stage 1 Nutrition curriculum, helping students connect nutrition knowledge with real-life healthy choices.
At NAN’s Tutoring in Adelaide, we help students not only succeed academically but also understand practical life knowledge that supports healthy study habits and wellbeing.

Australia Day is an opportunity to reflect on Australia’s history, identity, and democratic values — and it connects directly to what students learn in Year 9 Civics & Citizenship.
Year 9 Curriculum Link (AC9)
In Year 9, students study how Australia’s democratic system has developed and how it continues to shape society, including:
AC9HC9K01 / AC9HC9K02 – How Australia’s system of government and democratic values evolved
AC9HC9K04 – Different perspectives on historical and national events
The importance of active and informed citizenship
Australia Day supports learning by encouraging students to:
- Examine Australia’s democratic values
- Respect diverse perspectives, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewpoints
- Understand the responsibilities of citizens in a democracy
At NAN’s Tutoring, we help students:
- Link real-world events to the curriculum
- Build strong critical-thinking skills
- Develop confident civics and humanities understanding
Learning civics helps students become thoughtful, informed members of society.
