Believing in the power of read-alouds doesn’t take away from utilizing Orton-Gillingham methods, or the Science of Reading. It can only enhance a child’s experience through exposure to new vocabulary, modeling reading with expression and appropriate cadence, facilitating discussions that enhance comprehension, and above all, inspiring kids to be lovers of literature!
I use read alouds in my private tutoring practice. My students love it and ask for it! It’s a wonderful break from the hard work of reading!
Read-alouds are more than a joyful classroom moment—they’re a powerful, research-backed practice that supports comprehension, vocabulary, and engagement for readers of all ages. 📖✨
In honor of World Read-Aloud Day on February 4, the International Literacy Association is elevating the power and promise of read-alouds all month long. To begin, we're sharing our brief that highlights how read-alouds, alongside independent reading, strengthen literacy development and expand students’ access to rich texts.
