The A+ Generation is a tutoring company that accepts that every child is a genius. The genius of each child is unique and can be forced aside if not developed properly at home or at school. All our students are able to thrive in our programme because we have completely abandoned the ‘one- size-fits-all’ approach to education and have created programmes that cater to the different types of genius t
hat exists in each person. We accept that each child is unique, possessing distinctive personality traits, learning styles and preferences and thus create a tailored learning programme for each student. Our student-centred approach is captured in the numerous (but very different) services available, all of which are available to persons with physical, emotional or intellectual special needs. Our programme has three steps:
1. Identify
At this level we have just met our potential client and will conduct a holistic review process to answer the question ‘Who is our student and what does (s)he really need?’
First, there is a short interview with the parents/guardians and the students we try to understand why our services are being sought; who our student really is; what (s)he likes; how (s)he socializes; the environment in which (s)he operates and any other factors that help shapes his/her personality. The second step requires our potential student to sit a comprehensive diagnostic test. This is an important tool that allows us to classify the student based on his knowledge and skills. It will serve as a benchmark against which future progress will be measured. It also tells how much more needs to be covered in order to achieve the desired end-result. A component of the test will allow us to determine the student's learning style as well as his/her areas of strength - not just academically. From the interview and test we will be able to create a student profile which will detail the type of genius that our student is, the best methods necessary to develop this genius while creating a rounded programme that requires mastering key fundamental areas. Once the results and recommendations are provided, the parents will select a programme to fit their schedule and budget and then choose from a range of tutors who matches the profile of the student.
2. Implement
The tutor selected will use the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) created to achieve incremental goals that will contribute to accomplishing the objectives defined at the outset. (S)he will use differentiated teaching methods to fulfil the curriculum requirements. Games, technology, trips, workbooks, exercises and practice tests are only a few of the activities that you will find present in the lessons. Parents will be provided with weekly progress updates that will outline the material that has been covered – and how it relates to the major objectives to be achieved; the skills and attitudes that are being developed, grades on exercises or tests; and any comment regarding the student in the sessions conducted. Recommendations will be made to parents if there is any additional support that is needed.
3. Assessment
Frequent assessments will be conducted by the tutors, the results of which will be made available in the progress reports and will be accessible by email. In addition to this, every six weeks an external assessment will be conducted by the management team of The A+ Generation to provide an independent analysis of the progress of the students. At the end of three months, the goals of the IEP will be reassessed and adjusted if necessary to ensure (and thus guarantee) the success of our programme. Our Services
Our team at The A+ Generation believes that each child is gifted and talented in a particular area but the ‘genius’ in him/her only manifests if it is identified, developed and nurtured by keeping the child interested in his/her own education. There are some who thrive in the same setting where others are left behind so the challenge for parents continues to be to identify the ideal educational setting for his or her child. We believe that if given the right conditions and tools, every child – regardless of his or her physical, emotional or intellectual special needs – possesses a genius that is zealous and just waiting to unleash. Our services therefore caters to a different type of genius:
• Home-school:
Homeschool is no longer an alternative option sought only by parents with special needs. More parents search for an educational system that caters specifically to their children’s needs – especially those who seek an option for gifted students who may require an accelerated programme or for those who like to have the freedom to choose the curriculum options and control the environment in which the child learns. The A+ Generation’s homeschool programme allows parents to choose the curriculum, length of study and even the hours of study for their children including those at the preschool, primary/elementary, middle/high school levels. This is not only ideal for persons with special needs but also for children whose families travel extensively or have hectic schedules due to a career or sport. We have expert tutors and specialists on our team who are able to provide the full range of educational services that the child will require.
• Hospital Tutoring
This programmes geared towards those children who are missing school for extended periods because of their admission to a hospital, but are healthy enough to continue their studies. Many children will end up repeating an entire school year because they were unable to attend an acceptable amount of lessons at school, though often spending their time bored in the hospital and yearning for engagement.
• One-on-one tutoring
When working with outstanding tutors, students often perform better even in their untutored subjects. Why? Under excellent tutelage, students learn to break down material into discrete components, study systematically, manage their time, and develop the capacity for sound reasoning. Skills learned in a tutorial session for one discipline are transferable, whether consciously or subconsciously, to other disciplines
The mentoring relationship that can develop inspires the student to learn. Tutoring sessions offer nowhere to hide, confirming the student's preparedness or exposing the lack thereof. Through custom-designed programs that meet specific goals, a tutor can impose rigorous standards while remaining sensitive to each student's particular strengths and weaknesses. The A+ Generation believes that admitting we need help emotionally is not a sign of weakness, but rather a true display of strength. It takes true inner strength to admit their weakness to another, and thus seek help. Many of our geniuses need help emotionally. Parents and guardians know they are capable of more, but cannot figure out why their child(ren)'s strengths are not manifesting the way it truly can or they are aware of emotional challenges their genius is experiencing. The A+ Generation has a team of counselors and certified psychotherapists to assist with this. Whether it is brief or extended counselling, we have a programme to help your child address his/her need. Our Staff
We use one word to describe our tutors. Outstanding. They have deep knowledge of the subject matter for which they are preparing the students. Many of our tutors possess are undergraduate and postgraduate degree holders, however some may be attending colleges or universities. All our tutors are passionate about their subjects and the field of education. They are creative, technologically oriented and are the role models that you do not mind your child or children having. They are not only interested in the grades attained in the subjects being tutored but also the overall well-being of our students. More often than not, our tutors become trusted advisors your children can count on for advise even in personal matters. We have done our due diligence to ensure that the person entering your home not only meets the educational and personality requirements but also has no criminal record.
