Queridas y queridos indisciplinarios,

Socially Engaged Art in a Pandemic World 2.0, is the second in a series of workshops centered on the question: what is Socially Engaged Art now?
This workshop is for the participant who has a practice, who is beginning a practice or who wants to know more about Socially Engaged Art.
During this on-line class we will share our individual practices, and projects that are grounded in socially engaged art, and may be expressed in a variety of ways including performance, new media, architecture, design, among other expressions.
We will reflect on Socially Engaged Art as it is situated in the current lexicon through a deep dive into other artists' historical works and readings. International guest artists, engaged in new media, intersectional environmental social justice, q***r, feminist and BLM perspectives, will make weekly appearances to present their work, dialogue with the students, and discuss with students, their works in progress.
At the conclusion of the class, the students will have a working outline of a proposed project, practice, and thinking. The outline will include project description with citations, time and expense budgets, imagined outcomes including adaptabilities, blue sky exercise, follow up strategies. These outlines are intended to be a roadmap for the participant to further their practice, and as guidelines for residency and funding proposals. For students without practices, these outlines may be used as a roadmap for further reading, writing, and academic study.
